Perantis IWK: Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative Empowering Youth Towards Environmental Sustainability

KUALA LUMPUR: In continuing the celebration of its 30th anniversary, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd introduces the PERANTIS IWK Program, tailored for new graduates and final year graduates, who are passionate about environmental sustainability and personal development.

In collaboration with NK Communications PLT, this program aims to empower the youth and drive them towards environmental sustainability, by providing soft skills and develop leadership qualities, while also learning how to create impactful social media campaigns, which would be an important communication component in their career.

The five-day program has combined theoretical, practical, team-work skills, and physical training aspects. Conducted by the Director of NK Communications, who is also a Radio Announcer and TV Host, Natalie Kniese, along with certified HRDF trainer and Certified Professional Image Consultant (CPIC) Lalitha Muthusamy, all participants has underwent theoretical learning in the classroom, and practical aspects to understand the sewage treatment process.

At the award giving ceremony for the best participants of Perantis IWK Program, IWK’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Narendran Maniam said, “the purpose of this program is to not only celebrate three decades of IWK’s service, but it also aims to develop human capital while fostering interest in preserving environmental sustainability.”

“We believe that Perantis IWK Program will help to empower the youth and prepare them for the working world. I am proud of the commitment and efforts shown by all participants,” he said.

According to Mr Narendran, the Perantis IWK Program is part of the inspiration from IWK's corporate social responsibility initiative, known as IWK Cares, focusing on its three main pillars – environment, community, and education.

All IWK’s apprentice not only underwent the provided training but also, they competed to win for the three main prize which is cash worth of RM1, 000.00 per person and the chance of a job or industrial training opportunities at IWK.

The best group award went to Purrfect Duo, consisting of Lew Bay Sin and Naida Sofea binti Mohd Noorhazli. Additionally, the Best Networker award was won by Irwan bin Ibrahim. IWK Youth, a group comprising Eng Jin Cherng, Irwan bin Ibrahim, and Alia Nurmaisarah binti Hairil Anuar, won the Physical Challenge Activity.

The final evaluation was conducted by a panel that included; Head of IWK Planning and Engineering Department, Encik Taufik Salleh; Head of IWK Corporate Communication Department, Puan Wan Esuriyanti Wan Ahmad; Senior Manager of IWK Human Resources and Human Capital Department, Encik Azhan Mohd Lazim, and Managing Director of NK Communication PLT, Cik Misha Shah.

The winner of Peratis IWK, Lew Bay Sin and Naida Sofea binti Mohd Noorhazli said “with the training and skills provided throughout the program offered a new experience for all of the participants.”

“Not only did we gain a lot knowledge about the sewerage system, but the program was conducted for free. We feel very fortunate to have this opportunity and I hope that IWK will be able to continue the Perantis IWK Program for years to come, so that more young generations can benefit from it,” he said.
