Acer’s commitment to sustainability is an integral part of its business practices. From the earliest stages of design and manufacturing all the way to use and recycling, Acer has made significant strides in their sustainability efforts.

Earth + Mission = Earthion

As an advocate in circular economies, Acer launched its Earthion program in 2021 and since then have begun working closely with suppliers and partners to bring eco-friendly initiatives into its supply chain ecosystem, with its primary focus on energy, product design, packaging design, production, logistics, and recycling. That same year, Acer also launched its Vero line beginning with the Aspire Vero laptop, its first “green” focused laptop.

Earthion’s primary topics of focus include Acer’s RE100 commitment to source 100% renewable electricity by 2035, the pursuit of producing energy-efficient products and lowering carbon footprint in their supply chain.

Acer Aspire Vero: An Ideal Business Laptop with an Eye on Sustainability

If you are looking for a functional yet eco-friendly laptop to proudly display on your work desk, then the Aspire Vero series is the one for you! This year, its latest iteration is the Aspire Vero 16.

Featuring a chassis made from a blend of more than 60% recycled plastic, Aspire Vero 16 is more than just a laptop, it’s a bold step forward in sustainable technology.

Apart from equipping many eco-credential, the Aspire Vero 16 offers great energy efficiency, a longer device lifespan, smooth multitasking, crystal-clear video and audio and the list goes on — making your organisation’s green mark with an eco-friendly business laptop designed for working at or away from the office.

Aspire Vero 16 is powered by the latest Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 processor with Intel AI Boost, reaffirming Acer’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality while minimising its carbon footprint throughout the lifecycle. Following international standards [1] for carbon footprint calculation and carbon neutrality, actions are taken at each stage of the device lifecycle[2] to minimise its carbon footprint[3], and then, high-quality carbon credits will be applied to attain carbon neutrality.

Putting PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic front and centre!

In order to reach  20-30% in total PCR plastic usage by 2025, Acer’s strategy is to increase PCR plastic percentage step by step, to apply PCR plastic on more parts, and on more products.

According to its Sustainability Report in 2022, Acer has achieved incorporating 30% of PCR plastic into the Aspire Vero laptop chassis. For 2023, this will be increased to 40% while still meeting Acer’s quality requirement. Aside from the chassis, they have looked into other possible places and applied 50% PCR plastic on keyboard caps and 100% Ocean-Bound Plastic (OBP) on the touchpad.

As sustainability concerns not only how a product is made but what becomes of it, Acer’s Vero devices have also been designed to be easy to disassemble, simplifying the process of repairs or upgrades and ultimately increasing the devices’ lifespans.

Smart City Solutions Helping to Save Resources

Aligned with its mission to develop more eco-friendly product designs, Acer has been working on smart city solutions that reduce the waste of resources and create more efficient and sustainable lifestyles, such as implementing:

  • Smart Roadside Parking

  • EV Charging

  • Smart solutions to conserve water and monitor air quality

Acer marked its 10th year being on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI)

DJSI is a global index widely regarded as one of the world's foremost sustainability indices and in 2023, Acer celebrates its 10th consecutive year on the DJSI Emerging Markets Index.

Acer was also ranked among the top companies in the THQ (Computers & Peripherals and Office Electronics) industry, scoring in the 100th percentile with full marks across various components: Transparency & Reporting, Emissions, Resource Efficiency and Circularity, Waste, Water, and Customer Relationship Management.

Acer's journey is far from over

As the company looks towards the future, it remains steadfast in its dedication to pushing the boundaries of sustainability by expanding beyond computers and display products to lifestyle products, such as e-mobility (e-bikes and e-scooters) and energy storage solutions to contribute to the renewable energy industry.

Last December, Acer unveiled its “Conscious Technology” vision, emphasising a forward-thinking approach to technology, envisioning how such innovations can change the industry, and guide it to a healthier world for future generations.

Sustainability is a global effort that needs all hands on deck to make a real difference. Together we will inspire a positive change. The Acer Aspire Vero 16 is slated for an April 2024 release in the US while availability and pricing details for Malaysia have not been announced, so be sure to stay tuned for the latest updates.
