In a quest to make the world a better place, a group of passionate and dedicated students from SMK Dato Mohd Said, embarked on a project aimed at improving the environment. The journey towards effecting positive change began with a deep-seated commitment to taking concrete actions that would help address the pressing environmental issues plaguing the community. Through research, a conclusion was made that one of the biggest culprits behind the environmental pollution is the lack of proper waste practices in the community. Most residents within the locality did not separate their waste products before disposal, leading to an overwhelming amount of trash being dumped indiscriminately in landfills and other areas. This had far-reaching consequences for both the environment and human health, as toxic substances leached into the soil and water sources, causing untold harm and damage.
Armed with this knowledge, The Breaking Good team has initiated a programme called 3R Carnival that involves students, schools, and community. This initiative gave the chance to teach and implement the 3R (reuse, reduce, recycle) to the community especially the young generations. Main objective is to instill a strong sense of responsibility towards the planet's well-being, thereby motivating individuals to opt for eco-friendly practices in their everyday routines.
The team will be presenting their findings and the implemented solutions at the Toyota Eco Youth 2023/24 which will take place in Putrajaya. Toyota Eco Youth, organised by UMW Toyota Motor in collaboration with the Ministry of Education is a national level competition and is set to name the champion for this round in January 2024. This programme aims to prepare and educate the youngsters on the importance of respecting the environment for a better future.
