MEF's National Conference - Enriching Lives Through Human Development

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) is organising a two-day National Conference with the theme ‘Enriching Lives through Human Development’ on 6th -7 th September 2023 at the M Resort & Hotel, Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. This event is co-organised by the Human Resources Development Corp (HRD Corp) Malaysia. About 150 participants are expected to gather and discuss issues related to the changing landscape in people management.

YB Tuan V. Sivakumar, the Minister of Human Resources will be the Conference’s special guest who will deliver the keynote address. The MEF President, Datuk Dr. Syed Hussain Syed Husman will deliver the welcome address and open the National Conference.

MEF President Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman, P.J.N, J.P., states that “the main objectives of the conference are to:

  1. Impart knowledge on the HR strategies adopted by industry leaders,

  2. Share lessons and experiences in creating resilient organisations, including managing differently abled employees and technology for the future of work,

  3. Drive change with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as business imperatives in delivering business results, and

  4. Broaden opportunities and networking among human resources and industrial relations practitioners.

HR and Industrial relations practitioners gather for this insightful event will be feted by the presence of prominent business leaders and high profile practitioners across the various industries to share their expertise and practical experiences in navigating a fluid and challenging ecosystem post Covid - 19 pandemic.”

“Among the topics prepared for discussion with progressive, forward looking specialists in the country on the first day of the conference are the followings: National Training & HRD Corp; Revolutionising Performance Management, Training and Employee Wellbeing from Episodic to Continuous Models; Building an Inclusive Workplace: Understanding and meeting the needs of differently-abled employees; The Future of Youth Employment in Malaysia: How enterprises and government work together to ensure that young people have equal access to job opportunities?”

Datuk Dr. Syed Hussain states further that "On the second day, discussions will focus on: How Advances in Information Technology and Communication Channels Are Changing the Future of Work; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as business imperatives: Driving change in delivering business results; How should the CEO pivot their people agenda in order to add value to the business while also working with Human Resources needs?; and Employees’ engagement: Engaging teams in new era or new norm.”

“Featured chief executives and HR practitioners are Datuk Wira Shahul Dawood of HRD Corp, Mr Thomas Mathew of TalentCorp, Encik Azran Osman Rani of Naluri, Mr Charles Brewer of Pos Malaysia Berhad, and Mr Chen Fong Tuan, Senior Executive Vice President (Group Human Capital), Maybank, Ms Sharala Axryd, Founder & CEO of The Center of Applied Data Science (CADS), Ms Low Ngai Yuen, Chief Merchandising & Marketing Officer of AEON Co. (M) Bhd, and Mr Bill Lewis, Principal L&D Facilitator - are the main resource speakers who will provide a wealth of knowledge and practice related to business operation and people management.”

“Interestingly, there will be a Panel Discussion that articulates the ‘Organisation or Practices of Companies with regard to Understanding & Meeting the Needs of Differently-Abled Employees’, with progressive, forward looking specialists in the country. Y.Bhg Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan will moderate this session in a panel comprising Datuk Dr. Nora A. Manaf, Group Chief Human Capital Officer of Maybank & MEF Council Member, Encik Azhar Darbi, Vice President/Chief People Officer of McDonald’s Malaysia, Senator (R) Datuk Dr Ras Adiba Radzi (P.M.W), Community Activist and Veteran News Presenter, and Dr Anthony Chong, Co-founder/Secretary, Malaysian Sign Language and Deaf Studies Association.” Adds Datuk Dr Syed Hussain.

In this MEF National Conference, we see the launching of a book titled ‘MEF Practical Guide to Human Resources Management, 3rd Edition, written by MEF’s inhouse consultants and researchers. The sale of MEF publications and distribution of MEF Academy training information will also be happening while the conference is going on.

Datuk Hj Shamsuddin Bardan, MEF Executive Director and Dr R. Usha Devi, MEF Senior General Manager-Advisory and Chairman of Organising Committee of this year’s national conference, lead the way hoping that more practitioners will make this gathering a regular feature in the country’s HR industry. This is in tandem with the national interest of the country and the current government of nation’ approach by not leaving anyone behind in our march towards HR transformation.
