Hydrotherapy treadmills are all the rage when it comes to improving hip, leg, foot, and core strength—with Hydrofocus being the gold standard.
The machine is ideal for patients who have/had/are dealing with stroke; multiple sclerosis (MS); cerebral palsy (CP); osteoarthritis; Parkinson’s disease; paraplegia (paralysed from the waist down); muscle weakness from immobilization; joint replacement surgery; and lower limb pain.
Beyond that, it is also great for obese patients who are looking to shed weight as well as gain strength as sedentary lifestyles can often decondition and weaken bodies.
The Hydrofocus’ ACTIVE Trainer system includes a treadmill chamber with an integral plant equipment and water storage. Once the patient is safely inside the chamber, warm water fills up till roughly the patient’s waist level. Depending on the patient’s condition and the goal of training, the water level varies according to the recommendation of the physical therapist.
The main idea is that the treadmill guides and trains the patient’s natural gait pattern, which eventually carries over to on-ground movements.
The water is deliberately warm as it helps soothe and calm the patient while decreasing inflammation of the joints. Meanwhile, the water buoyancy also alleviates four-fifths of body weight. This takes pressure off the joints—allowing the patient to feel lighter and more comfortable walking as compared to doing it on ground.
This in turn increases the patient’s confidence and assuages their fear of falling (which can demotivate them)—strengthening their commitment and positivity towards their recovery journey.
Not to mention, the water turbulence—controlled by the physical therapist—acts as resistance training to help strengthen the patient’s limbs and core.
Daehan understands that rehabilitation can be a long, frustrating, and exhausting journey for many patients. That is why they have invested in only the best equipment and trained their therapists to deliver only the best care—to help change the lives of those who have placed their trust in Daehan.
