Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital Putrajaya is a private hospital that manages and treats neurological disorders and illnesses (such as strokes, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury) using intensive South-Korean style integrated rehabilitation methods that are complemented with advanced medical equipment where suitable.
Recently, it held a Rehabilitation Awareness Seminar, which also doubled up as a State Course Programme that was in collaboration with Hospital Pengajar UPM (HPUPM) and Hospital Serdang. It was officiated by the Director of HPUPM, Prof. Dr Hamidon Basri.
Observing safety measures, the seminar practised a hybrid setup in which most of the speakers were physically present while participants joined the session virtually.
From 8am to 5pm, 100 people came together—including public participants and medical professionals for the course that was themed ‘Beyond The Barriers’. It comprised seven sessions that featured speakers from the Ministry of Health (MOH); Ministry of Education (MOE); Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM); Department of Social Welfare (JKM); the Paralympic Council of Malaysia; and a sharing session by a cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury patient.
The insightful sessions covered topics that extended beyond rehabilitation and physical recovery—also focusing on the social aspect and obstacles the disabled community usually faces, whether in the workplace, school or playing sports.
In addition to creating and increasing awareness of the importance of rehabilitation medicine, the goal of the seminar was also to educate health workers, the public, and the community on opportunities available for people with disabilities at a policy maker level.
This is why it also served as a platform to connect various agencies so that they may work together to come up with programmes that would support the vision.
Participants of the programme are also entitled to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points—which are points awarded to medical practitioners who partake in activities that would develop and enhance the knowledge and skills required for better and safer medical practice.
Daehan Rehabilitation Hospital Putrajaya wants to drive home the message that rehabilitation medicine has a huge role to play within the healthcare industry and can be life changing for many.
Life does not end with a disability, and everyone has a role to play in creating an environment that empowers the disabled community.
