Lazada Malaysia and Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enable consumers to shop online safely, confidently and conveniently for medicine, vitamins, health supplements and medical devices through the MPS verification of online pharmacies and health category sellers on Lazada Malaysia.

This strategic partnership will pave the way towards realising the vision of an eCommerce ecosystem that is based on a strong level of trust among consumers, while raising awareness on the importance of buying certified quality medical and health products from credible sellers. The verification will be awarded by MPS to official flagship stores on LazMall – the authenticity-guaranteed online destination – as well as verified health category sellers on Lazada Marketplace. Consumers can identify verified online pharmacies on Lazada by looking for the ‘MPS Verified Certification’ displayed on their storefront.

The MOU signing ceremony took place on 25 May 2022 between Tuan Haji Amrahi Buang (President, Malaysian Pharmacists Society), and Mr. Darren Rajaratnam (Chief Operating Officer, Lazada Malaysia) on behalf of Mr. Cheang Kiat Cheong (Chief Financial Officer, Lazada Malaysia), and witnessed by Ms. Zhou Chenxi (Chief Business Officer, Lazada Malaysia), alongside Mr. John Yeo (Council Member, MPS), and Ms. Syireen Alwi (Assistant Honourary Secretary, MPS.

“According to the recent 2022 Lazada Consumer Study, 20% of Malaysians are already shopping online two to three times per week. With demand for various products under the health category products steadily growing in recent months, the MPS verification of online pharmacies on Lazada will safeguard our customers by providing them with the assurance that they need in order to make risk-free online purchase of medical and health care products. Coupled with the inclusion of more pharmacies and sellers, this will facilitate the ease of access and convenience in buying common medicines, while making it possible for our customers to save time and money,” said Darren Rajaratnam, COO of Lazada Malaysia.

“The MPS verification is a testament to the credibility of the e-pharmacy, giving consumers the assurance when shopping online for health and wellness products for themselves and their loved ones. For us at the Malaysian Pharmacists Society, it is crucial to raise awareness among consumers on the importance of purchasing certified products from accredited online pharmacies. In addition to that, we are keen to partner with Lazada to enable the MPS verification, thus upholding the calibre of the healthcare professionals in the pharmaceutical sector,” said Tuan Haji Amrahi Buang, President of the MPS.

The MPS Verified Certification will also add value to the online pharmacies, giving them the competitive advantage to distinguish themselves as credible and trusted health care stores. It will also extend their business’ customers touchpoints, enabling offline customers to access their official online stores on Lazada. The online pharmacies’ range of pharmaceutical products will be highlighted under ‘LazHealth’ – a trusted one stop centre on the Lazada Malaysia app for consumers to shop online safely, confidently and conveniently for certified health and wellness products.
