Giving back to the society is always at the heart of Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd, where environment sustainability and community engagement are injected into its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, also known as “IWKCares”. Over the past Syawal month, IWK has reached out to community members from the underprivileged groups to share the joy of Aidilfitri by providing essential goods, hot meal packs, free desludging services and landscaping works.
The national sewerage company’s IWKCares programme continues its collaboration with the Muslim Women's Action Society (PERTIWI), providing groceries items to 200 urban poor families from the B40 category at the Pusat Gelandangan Medan Tunku community centre in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. PERTIWI is an organisation dedicated towards addressing the welfare and needs of women and children.
Together with PERTIWI volunteers, IWK’s volunteers also distributed hot meal packs to the families in conjunction with the Raya festivities.
Additionally, IWK also had the opportunity to support the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (KIWANIS), Klang Centre, by offering free desludging services at the premise, conducting landscaping works as well as painting the children’s playground sets. KIWANIS is an organization that provides learning and development opportunities specifically for children with Down Syndrome.
The team also got a chance to engage with these special children, sharing happiness and having fun with a clown creating different balloon shapes.
Chief Executive Officer of IWK, Narendran Maniam, was also present to share donations of duit raya and school bags to these special children. He was joined by KIWANIS Klang Chairman, Amanda Russel, President of the Parents Support Group, KIWANIS Klang, Sanusi Saad, Head of Operations, IWK Klang, Isman Shariff and Head of Corporate Communications Department, Wan Esuriyanti Wan Ahmad.
“While the way we celebrate Raya might be different but the heart of the celebration – forgiveness, sharing joy and remembering those who are less fortunate – is what matters most. IWKCares will continue its efforts in creating a positive impact for all community members beyond the festivities,” said Narendran Maniam.
Creating a positive impact for Malaysians and the environment is at the core of IWK’s operations. IWK will continue to reach out to communities and local stakeholders through its operation’s network to seek opportunities for the community’s betterment.
