This year, as we celebrate International Tea Day on 21st May, BOH invites you to make your mark for Mother Nature!

Each year, International Tea Day is organised in tea-producing countries to celebrate one of the world’s oldest beverages and the most widely consumed drink globally next to water. It also aims to draw attention to the impact of the international tea trade on workers and growers, and support fair trade mechanisms.

Here in Malaysia, BOH, Malaysia’s leading tea grower and tea producer with a legacy dating back to 1929, has been marking this important calendar in the tea industry by celebrating the unsung heroes behind the brand  – the people who put so much passion into growing, processing and delivering the quality tea that BOH is synonymous with.

“Our plantation teams who wake up well before the crack of dawn each day to harvest the tea leaves, tend to our 1,200 hectares of tea gardensand handle other production tasks are an important backbone of BOH’s operations. They are BOH’s unsung heroes who make it possible for us to roll-out from our production factories the 4.5 million kilograms of tea annually or its equivalent of 5.5 million cups of tea daily that makes its way to different parts of Malaysia, as well as other parts of the world, to be enjoyed by many. We salute each of them for their passion and dedication not only on International Tea Day but each day,” said Jason Foo, CEO of BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd.

As in previous years, BOH has leveraged on International Tea Day to further express its ongoing commitment to the Corporate Responsibility programmes it supports.

“A sustainable future has always been a key priority for BOH. We recognise that much of our success is attributed to the environment which gives us the right conditions for that perfect brew and we must safeguard the environment for future generations. BOH’s continued success as a brand also ensures a sustainable future for all our employees, including our plantation teams. These are among the reasons why BOH has had a long engagement with several environmental NGOs and supported their noteworthy initiatives,” added Foo.

For International Tea Day 2022, BOH is inviting all BOH tea lovers as well as the general public to do their bit for the environment. All it takes is three 3 simple steps - SMILE, SNAP & SHARE, and you will be making your mark in a special way in BOH’s International Tea Day celebration.

Sorting the tea leaves for production

Just capture the best photo of you enjoying that distinctive Ummph of BOH teas which have been passionately crafted from the freshest tea leaves, right from our tea bushes

to your tea cup, and made possible by BOH’s dedicated tea growers.

“As you snap the picture, have a thought of our unsung heroes and you will truly sense that extra Ummph because your cup of tea was made by a passionate hand that harvested and produced the tea,” said Foo.

Share your photo on your personal feed by 5th June 2022 which also marks World Environmental Day. Tag @bohteamalaysia on Facebook and Instagram and be sure to set your privacy setting to public. For each entry received, BOH will contribute RM 5 to Global Environment Centre (GEC), an environmental NGO which BOH has been supporting to preserve our beautiful peat swamp forests.

BOH hopes to receive at least 2,000 photographs and contribute towards GEC’s continued efforts to champion on-the-ground, community-based, conservation activities. There are also plans to mount a collage of all the photographs and we will be announcing this later.

Global Environment Centre (GEC) Director, Mr Faizal Parish, expressed his gratitude for BOH’s extended and continued support of GEC’s initiatives. “Corporate partnerships like what we enjoy with BOH over many years are instrumental in helping us realise various initiatives to safeguard our planet, our only home. The funds from BOH’s International Tea Day activity is timely to help with forest rehabilitation and fire prevention during the dry season,” added Faizal.
