On 11 October 2021, it became effective that fully-vaccinated citizens are allowed to travel abroad, subject to COVID-19 screening. All prospective travellers are required to undergo COVID-19 tests prior to their departure based on the testing requirements imposed by the destination country. Similarly, those arriving in Malaysia are mandated to undergo COVID-19 screening tests upon arrival.
With regard to that, passengers can now opt to get their COVID-19 tests done from the convenience of KLIA and klia2. In line with the government's aim of #ReopeningSafely, BP has been appointed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to set up COVID-19 screening centres and related value-added services at KLIA and klia2 to provide premium and swift COVID-19 screening services. These services are available for passengers before departure or upon arrival to ensure all arrival passengers are duly screened at the airports.
The screening services will be accessible at five KLIA locations and three klia2 locations, which will open in phases. For incoming and transit travellers, the first centre has been open since September 19, 2021 at Gate G1, KLIA. As traffic increases, the establishment of a world-class and robust on-site laboratory at KLIA is projected to serve roughly 45,000 passengers per day, progressively increasing to 100,000 tests per day for departure, transit and arrival passengers.
This G1 screening centre features cutting-edge technology such as advanced thermal scanners, sophisticated on-site laboratory and a luxurious waiting room with WiFi access, portable WiFi rental, cellular SIM card and F&B services.
The following are the locations of existing screening facilities:
Arrival / Transit:
- KLIA - Gate G1 Level 4, Main Terminal Building
- KLIA - Gate G10 Level 4, Main Terminal Building (SG-MY Vaccinated Travel Lane)
- klia2 - Gate P4, Level 2
Departure:
- KLIA - Level 5, Main Terminal Building (near Papparich)
- klia2 - Check-in Counter Z, Level 3
This also applies for passengers travelling under the SG-MY Vaccinated Travel Lane and the Langkawi Travel Bubble (LTB), which require travellers to undertake COVID-19 testing at BP screening facilities upon arrival in Malaysia in order to enjoy quarantine-free travel.
COVID-19 tests are available from BP in four different varieties, all of which have a quick response time:
- RT-PCR (Quick) – 1.5 hours (highly recommended for VTL / LTB passengers)
- RT-PCR (Regular) – 3 hours
- RTK Antigen test – 15 minutes (only compulsory for symptomatic passengers)
- Antibody IgM-N & IgG-N test – 30 minutes (optional)
