Employees of E&P O&M Services Sdn Bhd (EPOMS), a subsidiary of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, have donated a total of RM25,000 through a voluntary staff salary contribution initiative to MERCY Malaysia’s COVID-19 Pandemic Fund. The COVID-19 Pandemic Fund aims to support Malaysia’s health care system by contributing funds towards medical services and essential needs of marginalised groups.

The donation drive saw employees contributing a portion of their salary via automatic deduction from their June 2020, salaries. This initiative complements PETRONAS Group’s donation drive in April 2020, which collected a total of RM6.4 million from employees’ voluntary salary contribution and was channeled to the Tabung COVID-19 under the National Disaster Management Agency or NADMA.

EPOMS’ Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Anuar Abdul Rahman said: “We must face this unprecedented battle against COVID-19 together. This pandemic has impacted not just the economy, but the people and the sobering reality is that those who are less fortunate have been affected the most. I hope our humble contribution will be able to relieve the pressure faced by the marginalised groups impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.”

EPOMS came forward to support MERCY Malaysia in its fight against this pandemic through its Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan, a continuous cycle of disaster risk management that focuses on emergency response, recovery, prevention/mitigation and preparedness/readiness. This humanitarian assistance does not only focus on medical aid but also supports marginalised groups such as the less fortunate families living in poor conditions, the elderly, refugees, stateless children, persons with disability, and other groups with low or no access to health information and services. MERCY Malaysia is a non-profit organisation and relies solely on funding and donations from organisations and generous individuals.
