Tesco, Mondelez successfully raised RM200,000 for the underprivileged

Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd alongside partners Mondelez International and non-governmental organisation Food Aid Foundation (Food Aid) had successfully raised RM200,000 through the customer participated Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas initiative.

Launched in Ramadan, the Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas is a joint initiative to raise funds which are then converted into food items to aid the underprivileged. The initiative ran from 23rd April to 11th June 2020.

For every RM30 purchase of any Tesco Own Brand products and RM30 of selected Mondelez brand products (Cadbury, Jacobs, Tiger, Chipsmore, Oreo, Twisties, and belVita) at all Tesco stores nationwide, Tesco Online Lazada and Shopee, RM1 were channelled into Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas.

Tesco Corporate Services Director Azliza Azmel is very humbled by the generosity of Malaysians who have contributed towards the Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas.

Funds collected were then converted to food items including rice, cooking oil, canned tuna, cream crackers, cereal flakes, milk, honey and instant beverage mix to be distributed by Food Aid to its beneficiaries across Peninsula Malaysia until July 2020.

“We are very humbled by the generosity of Malaysians, especially during a time that many livelihoods have been impacted because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. To achieve our target of RM200,000 through the Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas is truly a blessing in this holy month of Syawal,” said Tesco Corporate Services Director Azliza Azmel. “Every Little Helps and together, all of us can help those in need even further.”

Mondelez’s Head of Corporate and Government Affairs, Raja Zalina Raja Safran said: “In line with our purpose of Snacking Made Right, it is more important than ever for us to do what’s right as a company during situations such as these. Around the world, Mondelez International has been contributing products and financial support to various organizations that are caring for local communities impacted by the coronavirus,” said Raja Zalina.

Food Aid Founder, Rick Chee is pleased that the initiative is a success: “The Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas initiative will without a doubt be beneficial to families and individuals who are experiencing heightened financial hardships because of the pandemic. As a non-profit organisation, we always need a variety of support from big companies such as Tesco and Mondelez, and we are happy that they were able to step in during a time when their communities need them the most.”

The Tabung Kiriman Ikhlas initiative is in conjunction with Tesco’s ‘Raya Jimat, Raya Selamat’ campaign is concluding on 17 th June 2020.

Meanwhile, Tesco has also donated over RM130,000 worth of food and essential items to support the underprivileged communities and families that have lost their source of income, frontliners such as healthcare workers and local authorities on duty, as well as animals at the zoo and animal shelters across the country during the Movement Control Order period.
