Petal Search is a search engine, developed by HUAWEI in the second half of 2020 and it is available on mobile and desktop platforms, the search engine is inspired by HUAWEI’s logo named petal as in flower petals.

A lot of the most popular apps that aren't available from the HUAWEI AppGallery are available through Petal Search. You'll be able to download Twitter, Zoom, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Netflix, Spotify, Discord, Amazon Prime Video and Twitch.

Nowadays, Petal Search now supports news, image and video, shopping, and flight searches directly from the search bar to name a few of it.

After trying out using Petal Search for 5 days via www.petalsearch.com, I’m going to write down my personal review and experience for three of its features such as Petal Search Shopping, Petal Search Nearby and also Petal Search Newsfeed.

The first feature I’m going to talk about is Petal Search Nearby.

Nearby aggregates close to 20 categories of local lifestyle services into the app, providing users like myself with quick convenience connecting to restaurants, properties, landmarks, attractions, events and more with a single tap.

Through utilising HUAWEI's proprietary AI and geolocation capabilities, 'Nearby' feature will automatically gather the services and also latest happenings in the user’s vicinity.

For instance, if I am looking for places to hang out with friends, simply by tapping into the Nearby 'Restaurants' category, the app will show a list of nearby restaurants, along with their distances, ratings, average price per person, and other useful information such as whether free Wi-Fi connectivity is available.

I definitely like this feature very much and find it useful to survey for any nearby restaurants, grocery shops, post office, school, etc.

Now let’s talk about the second feature which is Petal Search Newsfeed.

Petal Search provides news based on the user's account registration area, as well as the EMUI region and language the user has set, including myself. News will be delivered to users by taking into consideration both the languages set and regions.

I noticed Petal Search Newsfeed result is fast, reliable and most of the time the results are accurate and consists of multiple different resources as for example I’m searching for 'Newsfeed for flooding in Malaysia klang area'.

At the same time, I noticed when you further click on the Videos section of Petal Search, you can have more options to choose from between duration, time quality and also the websites of the video which I think it very useful and user can choose to watch the video dated for past hour and even past month.

Last but not least, there is some small suggestion, maybe you can add in total how many results found from the search and also the duration time it takes.

The third feature is Petal Search Shopping. All the products and services that are displayed in the "Shopping" box are provided by third-party merchants.

If I do not apply a filter to my search, my results will appear under the "Featured" tab and will be ranked by default based on the relevance to your search query.

"Relevance" means how closely the result is related to my search query, taking into account factors such as the product name, category, and description.

I noticed if my search relates to a HUAWEI product, the relevant HUAWEI product will appear in the "Shopping" box and in a separate box that is clearly labelled "HUAWEI Products".

Only products that are available to purchase from the HUAWEI/HONOR online stores are listed in the "HUAWEI Products" box.

Besides that, when you click on the Tools button under Petal Search, you can further sort by relevance, best rated, prices and also to choose shipping to the respective countries.

At the same time, I cannot buy products or services directly from Petal Search. If I want to check the product or service information displayed in my search results, I need to find out more about the product, service or make the purchase by visiting the site button displayed next to the product or service.

Lastly, you can click on information button for ‘How it works’ to find out more details regarding How HUAWEI rank the search results, checking the product information and also to make complaints if believe your rights (e.g. trademark rights) are being infringed upon by information included in any shopping search results.

In summary, Petal Search serves as a companion app to the HUAWEI AppGallery. It helps me to find apps that are not in the HUAWEI store and provide more options to choose from as the global search engine.

Besides that, I find Petal Search very easy to install and use, and the user interface is user friendly.
