Teoh Yun Xin, a Law student, is having a wonderful time at the University of Cambridge, UK.

“I’ve been here for over a year now, and the highlights are definitely the people that I have met,” she reveals. “You can find a great community within your college.

“I also really enjoy the pace and beauty of the city, where you can walk around and get coffee and pastries to pass the day (while studying of course!).”

However, it’s not just the community at Cambridge that she’s thankful for, as Teoh fondly reflects on the community she had at Taylor’s College whilst she completed her Cambridge A Levels (CAL) that helped prepare her for her current phase in life.

“My time at Taylor's definitely prepared me in terms of confidence and academics.” says Teoh. “Taking A-Level Law definitely helped me with understanding a few of the papers I will take or have taken here. On the social-side, Taylor's has also given me a really supportive community - shout out to Mr. Lai, Ms. Harjit and Ms. Malathy! I also had an amazing group of friends to study and have fun with.”

Teoh Yun Xin, currently pursuing Law at the University of Cambridge, says the highlight of her experience is the community she has met.

Echoing this sentiment is Cynthia Ng, a Taylor’s CAL student who recently got accepted into University College London to read biomedical science.

“The most important factor for my achievements was the quality of teachers in Taylor's,” says Ng. “My subject teachers were superb – very supportive and helpful, which made me work harder to attain good grades.”

Ng admits that at one point, she had difficulties adapting to online learning when the pandemic hit, and lost her motivation to concentrate in class.

“Luckily my lecturers were very understanding and some of them provided one-to-one tutoring sessions to help those who were falling behind in class,” says Ng, adding that eventually she picked up her pace of work thanks to her lecturers’ support.

For Joash Yeap Ken Joo, SACE International student at Taylor’s College, the pandemic posed the problem of making friends.

“Fortunately, lecturers were aware of this as they always gave us group projects which allowed us to work with our classmates and make new friends,” says Yeap. He and his newfound friends motivated each other during tough times in their studies.

Ng certainly testifies that the community support at Taylor’s was crucial to her experience, including the University Placement Services which was her “life saver” when it came to university applications by giving her all the information needed and guiding her in every step of the way.

It is no surprise then, that Ng advises students who are ‘shopping’ for a college to consider the learning environment and support the college provides.

Yeap adds that one should consider the structure of programme that suit his or her learning style, as well as the college reputation. “I chose to study at Taylor’s because of their consistent results of producing students with flying colors,” he says.
