In the recent years, more than 50 percent of men who are over 40 years old are experiencing hair loss. Not only that, young men also are suffering from this problem.
So the question is, “How to stop hair loss from happening” or “what are the remedies for hair loss?” Unfortunately, many hair loss solutions do not work. For ordinary men, it is difficult to separate the myths and facts to solve their hair loss problem.
DHI & Nexus Clinic would like to expose the myths & truths to solve your hair loss problem.
1. Regularly wearing hats or caps makes you go bald - Myth!
It is true that your hair needs oxygen to be ‘happy’ and healthy. Oxygen cannot be absorbed directly from the hair but absorbed from the body itself. Hence, wearing a hat would not restrict or cause loss of oxygen.
Wearing a hat does not cause any stress to the hair follicle. A condition called “traction alopecia” is ruled out unless you are wearing a tight cap causing permanent hair loss.
2. Washing your hair too much can cause thinning - Myth!
That bottle of shampoo helps to clean your scalp and it does not break any hair strands. It does not cause any hair loss.
When it comes to the end of the hair’s life cycle, it will just fall when washing. It is a natural process. Hair strands may break off when brushing through wet hair as they loosen up from the scalp due to the washing process.
3. Baldness comes from your mother’s side (maternal grandfather or brother is bald) - Myth!
Your genes is a combination of a variety of genes running in both sides of your family. When the question comes to you “baldness is from your mother’s side” - It is not completely true.
Hair loss is polygenetic, hence it cannot be determined by looking at your family tree. If there is a hair loss pattern in either sides of your family, you may be at risk of suffering from hair loss.
4. Hair loss only occurs with age - Partially True!
Hair loss does occur as you age but if you inherit the gene for male or female pattern baldness, it can hit as early as puberty. Male pattern baldness can hit from teenage years and female hair loss can start from the early twenties.
At Nexus & DHI, we treat many young men and women for hair restoration through various techniques ranging from medication, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to Hair Transplants.
5. Natural supplements can prevent hair loss - Myths!
The vast number of natural supplements or plant extracts sold in the market to prevent hair loss gets everybody into thinking that “it will prevent the receding hairline or hair loss”, which is not the case.
There are very little scientific studies or facts showing natural supplements or plant extracts beiv able to reverse the main cause of hair loss, which is genetically related to male pattern balding. In addition, consuming vitamins and supplements sold for hair growth will not work unless you have nutritional deficiency.
6. Propecia (Finasteride) and Minoxidil works - True!
This is true. Propecia and Minoxidil are approved medication by FDA. Even though many of the solutions do not help with hair loss. Men who uses Minoxidil can improve in 30 to 50 percent. It works by making hair follicles bigger and stimulating hair growth.
Propecia (Finasteride), a hair-loss drug works by blocking the enzyme that changes testosterone to a hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is the enemy of hair follicles on your head.
7. Stress is the main reason for hair loss - Myth!
95 percent of the men suffers from hair loss due to male pattern baldness. Typically, stress can make you lose hair when it is extremely intense. For instances like, meeting with an accident or dealing with a loss of someone close.
On the other hand, hair loss due to stress is commonly observed in women which is easily reversible if the stress is managed or mitigated.
8. Hair transplant never looks natural - Myth!
Does the thought of Hair Transplant haunt you because your hair may look plug-y, patchy or unattractive? Well, that is not true. There is a new treatment technology where hair follicles are implanted directly to bald area WITHOUT the need for incisions or holes on the balding areas.
This innovative treatment, called Direct Hair Implantation (DHI), involves transplanting hair follicles one by one, directly to the thinning area. Each hair follicle is placed in a specific direction, and depth, thanks to a patented tool, providing 100 percent natural hair, with the implanted hairs continuing to grow naturally throughout a person’s lifetime.
