Security

  • The government has ruled out the takeover of Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd, the company behind the supply of passports and MyKads, the National Security Council (NSC) said.

In a statement yesterday, the NSC said the government intends to oversee the matter of citizen identity through legal frameworks, governance, and financial aspects.

On Aug 21, The Edge reported NexG Berhad, the parent company of Datasonic Technologies, as confirming the government’s request for an indicative price of the subsidiary.

It said the Finance Ministry had issued a verbal request at a meeting with the subsidiary on July 24.

Politics

  • Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has provided the Registrar of Societies (ROS) an explanation regarding a complaint from Bersatu.

Speaking at a programme in Kelantan last night, he said he gave the statement on Friday in response to Bersatu’s claim that it had not been included in discussions over the Negeri Sembilan polls.

According to Berita Harian, the PAS secretary-general said he had cited Bersatu’s actions from the Johor election, which he described as “not right”, as the party was contesting under the PN logo but “tarnishing” the coalition’s image.

  • Takiyuddin said PN no longer invites Bersatu to meetings as the party’s supreme council does not have enough members to hold its own meetings.

He cited the Bersatu constitution, saying it requires at least 25 out of 49 supreme council members to be present for a meeting.

“We are worried that they are not following their constitution and have committed an offence. If they are involved in our decision-making, our decision will become invalid too,” Sinar Harian quoted him as telling a press conference in Kelantan last night.

He said he had issued a show cause letter to Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali on July 14, demanding an explanation within two days - failing which, PN will give notice that it will no longer call the party to meetings. Bersatu did not respond to the letter, he added.
