PAS vs DAP
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has hit back at four Malay DAP leaders who had criticised his latest commentary on politics by calling them “uneducated Malays”.
The four were DAP vice-chairperson and Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid and Senator Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali.
Met today after his weekly Friday lecture in Marang, Terengganu, Hadi was asked about the quartet’s criticism of his article, to which he said: “They are uneducated Malays”.
Hadi also refuted the suggestion that he was exploiting Islam for political gain, saying that his arguments in the article were based on passages of the Quran, the Hadith and the past speeches and statements of DAP leaders.

Special announcements
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has hinted at a series of announcements in the coming months, with one expected on the eve of National Day, another on Malaysia Day and a third when Budget 2027 is tabled in October.
Bernama reported him as saying this in response to a student who asked about measures to protect the welfare and financial security of young people working in the gig economy during the Temu Anwar session in Klang yesterday.

Anwar said efforts were also underway to strengthen protections for gig workers, including through the establishment of the Malaysian Gig Economy Commission and a new bill concerning small businesses.
He added that the government would make it easier for graduates to obtain financing to start businesses, including through the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund.
Corruption
A former Lembaga Tabung Haji chief executive has been remanded for seven days over an MACC probe into the alleged misappropriation of about RM190 million in Tabung Haji investments and shares, following findings in the royal commission of inquiry report.

Bernama reported that Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah granted the MACC’s application for the remand order at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court today; the order runs until Aug 27.
He is the latest person to be investigated in connection with the case, after the MACC previously detained and questioned seven others.
