This followed deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim asking for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal to the same charge as the prosecution wanted separate trials for this case and another case, where Tengku Adnan was also charged with graft.
Tengku Adnan, who is better known as Ku Nan, was charged with receiving the amount from businessperson Cai Kin Kong through a cheque from Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd.
He was accused of accepting the sum despite knowing that Aset Kayamas, Sinerjuta Sdn Bhd, Fiber Vista Sdn Bhd, Era Ecoland Sdn Bhd, Garuda Searah Sdn Bhd and Ujana Mutiara Sdn Bhd had dealings with his ministry.
He allegedly committed the offence at CIMB Pusat Bandar Damansara in Kuala Lumpur on June 14, 2016.
The charge is under Section 165 of the Penal Code. If convicted, Tengku Adnan could face a prison term of up to two years and a fine.
Sessions judge Azman Ahmad granted bail at RM500,000 bail.
Last month, Tengku Adnan claimed trial to receiving RM1 million from developer Tan Eng Boon. The latter was charged with giving the bribe and abetting Tengku Adnan.
Eng Boon has also claimed trial in a separate court before Sessions judge Azura Alwi.
For this, Tengku Adnan was charged under the MACC Act 2009, with an alternative charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
Azman fixed Jan 7 for the mention of both cases.
Tengku Adnan was represented by lawyer Tan Hock Chuan.
Eng Boon's lawyer Faisal Moideen today objected to having his client's case transferred to Azman's court and Azura fixed Dec 17 for the mention of this matter.
