PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's challenge on the constitutionality of the National Security Council (NSC) Act 2016 will now be heard at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Feb 27 next year.

The date was fixed by Justice Nordin Hassan in his chambers following case management.

Initially, Anwar failed to obtain leave to challenge the case at the High Court, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

However, the Federal Court subsequently ordered the case to be remitted to the High Court earlier this month when the government did not object to Anwar's appeal.

In August 2016, just a day after the NSC Act came into force under Article 66(4A) of the Federal Constitution, Anwar filed a judicial review to challenge its constitutionality.

The bill was made law without the assent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, despite the Conference of Rulers seeking refinement.

Anwar is also seeking to have amendments from 1993 – which states that a bill becomes law if it does not receive royal assent in 30 days – declared unconstitutional.
