PARLIAMENT | An opposition lawmaker today demanded that the chief secretary to the government, Ali Hamsa, probe the alleged extramarital affair involving MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad in accordance with the Public Service General Orders.

"I want to know what is the role of the chief secretary to the government. According to the general orders, the MACC chief commissioner should be probed," Johari Abdul (PKR-Sungai Petani) told the Dewan Rakyat.

"I remember how a secretary-general (who was) accused of having an affair with a married woman had been fired (following an investigation).

"Will the chief secretary cover up the issue? Will the MACC chief be compromised in future cases due to his wrongdoing?" he asked.

The issue of the extramarital affair first cropped up after a series of videos were posted on social media, allegedly involving Dzulkifli (photo), and which subsequently led to a police investigation.

Johari raised the questions following Gobind Singh Deo's (DAP-Puchong) own query about Dzulkifli being investigated under Section 498 of Penal Code by the police, as well MACC's own Ops Gopi probe on police officers allegedly receiving kickbacks from vice dens.

Gobind had slammed the inaction on these high profile cases, and questioned whether there have been any cover-ups by the enforcement authorities.

"Was Dzulkifli the man in the video clip? Was he on an official trip to Bali at that time? We noticed several officers inside the video. Are they MACC officers? Did MACC know about it?" he asked.

G Manivannan (PKR-Kapar) then stood up and questioned if there was a cover-up, since the police and MACC probing each other in the Dzulkifli and Ops Gopi cases.

"They are probing each other and this is the crux of the country's major issues. Does that mean that the police and MACC will compromise with each other?

"This is how we see it. MACC and police have to take care of each other so that there will be no blowups," he said.

Gobind also took aim at the new inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun for inaction in the alleged assault at the Tamil Malar newspaper by MIC Youth members. 

"This was the first case for the new IGP. But he has shown to be the weakest (top cop) and he is completely incapable of doing anything.

"We want to see him work but from we saw only inaction (from the police)," he added.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister M Saravanan had denied involvement in the incident, claiming that the fight had begun before he arrived, and he had showed up only to "break up" the fight.
