DAP 'evil' for appointing PAS in Penang gov't

Ousted PAS central working committee member Khalid Samad sarcastically said DAP was 'evil' for appointing many PAS representatives into the Penang government and government-linked companies (GLCs).

"Looks like there were many PAS representatives appointed (into government) even though PAS only won one seat (in Penang).

"They were even appointed by the Pakatan government which almost completely comprise DAP.

"How evil of DAP to appoint so many PAS representatives. They have made things complicated," he said sarcastically.

His remark appeared to be a jibe at the conservative faction, which took over the PAS leadership at the party election last week and approved a motion to sever ties with DAP.

Khalid pointed out despite the conservative faction's criticism of DAP, its move to sever ties with DAP brought to light the wide benefits that PAS enjoyed in the Penang government.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had asked PAS representatives to quit the Penang government and GLCs after the motion to sever ties with DAP was passed.

This prompted the new PAS leadership to make a U-turn, claiming that the motion was not final and urged party representatives not to quit.

Materialise sever ties motion

In his latest blog posting, Khalid, who is also the Shah Alam MP, said he hoped the motion from the PAS ulama wing to sever ties with DAP could materialise soon.

“For me, the motion must be executed for the spirit behind it to materialise and to make sure PAS is not accused of bowing down to DAP, greedy for jobs and a party with no dignity.

“Especially when the motion was accepted - without even debate - from the PAS muktamar.

“So, let it be that this stern and brave action is to put our hopes only with Allah.

"We are brave because the truth is with us and we are convinced Allah is with those who possess it,” Khalid wrote in an article titled ‘Post the 61st muktamar and coveted reform’.

Khalid is one of the progressive members purged by the PAS delegates during their annual muktamar in Kuala Selangor last week.

Besides Khalid, other moderates who lost their central committee seats are Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin, Kuala Krai MP Dr Hatta Ramli and former deputy president Mohamad Sabu.

Khalid said the decision of Mohamad, who is widely known as Mat Sabu, to resign immediately from GLCs in Penang he had been appointed to were apt as his appointment was based on Mat Sabu’s position in the party then.

“As Mat Sabu ( photo ) can be appointed, he can be sacked as well. No need to wait for the sacking. Better, in principle, to resign.

“Especially when it was PAS that attacked DAP and wanted to sever ties with it,” Khalid said.

At the same time, Khalid said, the new PAS leadership should be allowed time and space to work for their cause.

He wished the new leadership the best and asked everybody not to worry about him, for he would still work with the PAS grassroots and NGOs with Pakatan Rakyat to defeat Umno and the BN.

“Those who worked hard have achieved victory. Their hopes, along with president, is to do everything they feel needed (for PAS), which is opposite of the old leadership. So we have to wait and see and give them the widest of space.

“At the same time, I am convinced that other friends who have been involved with the Islamic fight for justice and defending the rights of the people as I will be fully committed to continue with their work.

“With PAS in the lower and middle tiers, with NGOs and other Pakatan components, we will continue to move forward to topple Umno/BN,” Khalid added.
