In the spirit of togetherness, McDonald’s Malaysia continues to bring people together by sharing the “The True Meaning of Prosperity” with more than 120 retirement homes nationwide.
McDonald’s restaurants across the nation will be marking its 7-year-old community initiative by visiting retirement homes in Malaysia from 15 January to 15 February 2023, to spread joy and cheer to senior citizens.
With the Year of the Rabbit signifying longevity, peace, and prosperity, McDonald's reminds Malaysians that the true measure of prosperity is who you have with you, rather than what you have.
Sharing the joy at this special time of the year
In McDonald’s Birch House, Penang, the crew kicked off the celebration by inviting over 50 senior citizens from Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged, as well as several members of the hard-working local authorities such as the police, Bomba and Rukun Tetangga personnel to come together for a McDonald’s ‘Makan Besar’ feast.
The quick service restaurant had earlier held a ‘Makan Besar’ feast at McDonald’s Mutiara Damansara for senior citizens from My Father’s House, Petaling Jaya on 11 January 2023.
“McDonald’s has always advocated familial ties through communities. As we enter the new year, we will continue to support and care for the communities, especially the old folks. This Chinese New Year outreach programme is to invoke McDonald’s ‘True Meaning of Prosperity’ and share precious memories with loved ones. More importantly, it is also to show that communities, similar to a family, require nurturing and care to flourish,” said Dato’ Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, McDonald’s Malaysia.
The nationwide outreach programmes include festive activities such as Lion Dance, Prosperity Toss (Yee Sang), and the highlight – a karaoke session with McDonald’s crew. These efforts are part of the initiative under Program Komuniti @ McDonald’s and RMHC, to foster “The True Meaning of Prosperity” among the elderly as they celebrate the joy of a new year together.

Dato Azmir Jaafar explained that the McDonald’s Chinese New Year outreach programme highlights the company’s commitment as a caring neighbour to feed and foster the communities in which it operates. Additionally, the initiative also emphasises the importance of care and respect towards the elderly.
Through this engagement and other related activities, McDonald’s hopes to embrace the spirit of togetherness that is rooted in tradition and family.
