KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital proudly celebrates a significant achievement, having successfully performed 600 total knee replacement surgeries using cutting-edge robotic technology. Of these, 500 surgeries utilised the Robotic Surgical Assistant (ROSA), while 100 were performed using the Robotic-Assisted Solution (VELYS™).
As the first healthcare institution in Borneo Island to adopt this ground breaking technology, the achievement underscores the hospital’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art medical care to its patients aligned with its "Care for Life" philosophy.
Ortho Surgeon of KPJ Kuching, Dr. Lee Woo Guan, the visionary behind the adoption of ROSA and VELYS™ technologies commented, “The success of ROSA and VELYS™ is more than just a technical achievement; it is a reflection of our unwavering dedication to advancing patient care through precision technology. During a recent session, two patients shared their experiences with Dr. Lee Woo Guan, commending the ease and adaptability of his procedures and treatments. They also praised KPJ Hospital for its exceptional service throughout their treatment journey.
Lanny Gunawan, an 80-year-old patient from Bandung, Indonesia, expressed her satisfaction with her care. She said, "Someone recommended KPJ Hospital to me, and I couldn't be happier. I chose to come here because everything about the service is excellent. The surgery with Dr. Lee Woo Guan was fantastic. He is not only highly skilled but also very personable. The procedure was quick, smooth, and successful. After the surgery, I felt no pain at all just relief."
Similarly, Tjung Daryanto, a 59-year-old patient from Jakarta, Indonesia, shared his positive experience; "I was experiencing severe pain in my hip and decided to seek help at KPJ Hospital. I arrived on the 10th, filled with hope, and was warmly welcomed by the staff. Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Lee Woo Guan took the time to see me, carefully examined my condition, and conducted further observations. Since its introduction in September 2023, ROSA has revolutionised knee replacement surgeries in the region. The addition of VELYS™ in October 2024 has further enhanced orthopaedic care with complementary technological capabilities.
