Close your eyes, take a deep breath and imagine yourself on the beach of a tropical island. You’re sat under the canopy of a leaning palm tree; your feet are half dug into soft golden sand, you can hear the waves breaking on the shore and a welcome sea breeze keeps you cool. You spend the day staring up to the sky, the occasional white cloud comes and goes; beautiful tropical birds fly by and serenade you with their song.

The sun comes low in the sky, beautiful blue turns to purple and red as the sun begins to touch the water on the horizon. The temperature drops and you pull a light blanket around yourself as you watch the sun go down. Its final act of the day is to turn the sky into a wall of orange-red; one final act of defiance at the coming of the night.

It is everyone’s dream to spend a week or even a day, relaxing on a deserted island soaking up the sun. Golden beaches, peace, seclusion and just the sound of the waves crashing to keep you company as you relax in your own personal paradise. In a world of instant communication, fast travel and more people being currently alive than have ever died in total, the dream of peace and seclusion can seem like an impossible one.

Don’t despair, there are still places in the world where the kind of island to fit those desires can be found. In the heart of Asia, the continent filled with gems just begging to be discovered, is a beautiful archipelago, named after its largest island; Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah.

The archipelago of Langkawi is made up of 104 islands, 30km off the Malaysian coast. Only 4 of these islands are inhabited, Langkawi, Tuba Rebak and Dayang Bunting. This leaves one hundred islands, all of which of reachable by boat, open for you to visit and turn into your very own island paradise for a day. It is a simple task to rent a boat from one of the main islands, such as Langkawi, and spend your days on the island of your choice.

If lazing on a tropical island beach isn’t your thing, or perhaps you can only spend so long doing nothing, then rest assured, this archipelago has many sources of entertainment just waiting for you to arrive. If adventure is more your cup of tea, then you will be well looked after. The sky bridge of Langkawi is a beautiful sight in itself, but it gives you access to a scene so incredible and unique, you’ll find yourself spending more time on it, than any other bridge you have ever scene. Stretching over the canopy of an incredible rainforest spread out over a mountainside, the bridge gives you the kind of view that used to be restricted to birds only.
