Anti-graft watchdog Gerak has lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for allegedly misusing state funds.

According to Gerak chairperson, Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus, Abdul Khalid had used state funds to sponsor 46 cattle to be slaughtered and distributed to Bandar Tun Razak residents in Kuala Lumpur for the Hari Raya Korban last December.

Abdul Khalid is also the member of parliament for Bandar Tun Razak.

macc gerak selangor mb 210109 mohd nazree hand memo According to Mohd Nazree’s complaint, Abdul Khalid had bought the cattle for RM110,400 using funds from a state agency.

"There are no allocations for this in the state agency's budget. Furthermore, it was money from a Selangor agency, given out for the benefit of people in Kuala Lumpur," he said at a press conference.

The Gerak’s chairperson also revealed that they had received documents last week from “an individual working in the state agency involved”, namely the Selangor Industrial Corporation Sdn Bhd.

His complaint was received by Selangor MACC chairperson Moh Shamsuddin Yusof at Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam at 10.45am today.

Gerak to meet Selangor sultan

Mohd Nazree further pointed out that Abdul Khalid should take a “rest” from his job while the investigations against him was being carried out by MACC.

This, he said, should be done once Gerak has met Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj this Friday.

“Hopefully, we will get to meet the sultan this coming Friday, and urge him to instruct the MB to ‘take a rest’ from his job while investigations against him are being taken,” he said.

He noted that this measure is “in accordance with de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s policy that states any government leaders who are involved with MACC investigations should have their jobs suspended”.

“The same measure was taken by Abdul Khalid himself when he suspended his special aide Yahya Sahri when he was being investigated by the (then) Anti-Corruption Agency last year,” he added.

Furthermore, Mohd Nazree said, this type of irregularity will open up a new door for corruption to take place again in the future.

He said that the people should not stop lodging reports against any Pakatan Rakyat or Barisan Nasional leaders, if there are any irregularities, as this will help create “good governance”.

Khalid clarifies cattle donation

Meanwhile Abdul Khalid rejected Gerak's claims of his corrupt practice.

Talking to reporters at a press conference later in the day, Abdul Khalid clarified that the cattle were actually gifts for the needy from an associate company of a state agency.

He added that he was not aware of the existence of any state agency called Selangor Industrial Corporations (SIC).

"SIC? I don't know about them. Why did SIC pay? Who insisted SIC to pay? I only know that PKNS organised the cattle to be distributed to Bandar Tun Razak," he said.

He said that the cattle were donated by six subsidiary and associate companies of state development agency PKNS.

"(But) we had sufficient cattle for Selangor and that is why when the associate company of PKNS wanted to donate more cows to the state, I suggested that they should instead donate the cattle to mosques in Cambodia or Bandar Tun Razak as I am the MP for the area," he said.

"I viewed this as a donation and not a bribe," he said, adding that if the money went to the pocket of the prime minister, or the menteri besar, then "it would be worthwhile for Gerak to pursue".

He also said that apart from the donation, "he didn't see the cattle and I don't know why they are making an issue out of it".

"If it is an issue, I will go to the mosques that received the donations to check," Abdul Khalid said.
