Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar revealed that the police last met 'missing' private investigator S Balasubramaniam in Bangkok on July 7.

The PKR politician had asked about Balasubramaniam's whereabouts and if he had been given police protection.

"The police does not have information of his current whereabouts. The last time he was detected was on July 7, 2008 when his statement was recorded in Bangkok," wrote Syed Hamid.

He could be charged

The minister added that the police had never been involved in any form of protection for Balasubramaniam.

He later released a controversial statutory declaration claiming that there was a link between Altantuya and Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The statutory declaration was retracted a day later under strange circumstances and Balasubramaniam went 'missing' with his entire family immediately after.

In his written reply, Syed Hamid also indicated that Balasubramaniam may be charged for making a false statutory declaration.

"For your information Yang Berhormat, investigations have been completed and the investigation papers have been sent to the Attorney-General to be considered for prosecution under Section 199 of the Penal Code," he said.
