MIC president S Samy Vellu has slammed Pakatan Rakyat for making conflicting claims on the demolition of a temple in Ampang, Selangor.

In a statement today, he said the conflicting claims indicated that the Selangor government was diverting public attention away from the fact that the temle was demolished by state authorities.

samy vellu pc 120308 prejudice “We want the state government to come clean on the matter and expose who had authorised the demolition of the temple,” Samy said, adding that the outcome of any investigation ought to be made public.

Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin claimed that the temple was not demolished but was undergoing renovations undertaken by the temple committee.

She also claimed that Samy Vellu and the MIC were raising the issue to cause discontent among Indians towards the Pakatan state government.

People are upset

However, the Star today quoted Selangor health, estate workers and caring government committee chairperson Dr Xavier A Jayakumar as saying that five to six Ampang Jaya Municipal Council workers were involved in the demolition.

Samy Vellu said the state government should not claim that the MIC was making unfounded allegations in order to divert public attention from the issue.

“It also appeared that the state government has been taking the issue lightly, not knowing that it involves a very sensitive matter, and the people are very upset, especially after the opposition promised that no temple will be demolished,” he said.
