Puduraya’s - Kuala Lumpur’s central and congested transport terminal - management, want Road Transport Department enforcers to be stationed permanently there to curb illegal ticket touts.

puduraya bus station 260908 02 Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department T Murugiah has received the request from UDA Mall Sdn Bhd - the management outfit of the 42-year old terminal located on the city end of Jalan Pudu.

“They requested that the RTD officers be placed here not just during festive seasons but all year round. We’ll pass the request to the RTD and the transport ministry after the festive season,” Murugiah said.

The deputy minister oversees the Public Complaints Bureau informed reporters of the development after making an inspection visit to the terminal ahead of the balik kampung rush next week - following complaints published in newspapers.

Complaints highlighted were in regards to excessive pricing, delays and petty crime.

The decrepit terminal has been due for an uplift for decades but a combination of plans to close the terminal and the failed development of adjacent Plaza Rakyat has left it without any substantial improvement. Instead it is now a traffic hotspot with buses and cars parked irregularly and widespread illegal touting.

‘Complain to us’

“If you think that you have been paying more than you have to for tickets, you can complain to us,” he said.

On delays, Murugiah said that the festive season had caused jams around the city and bus delays were unavoidable and that passengers would have to bear with it.

His inspections show that all tickets for the season have been taken up. However, the deputy minister assured that additional buses will be made available to cope with the demand.
