Nine positions in DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) lineup remains unchanged with secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and party chairperson Karpal Singh retaining their posts.

dap 15th congress 240808 tunku abdul aziz Minor changes ( see chart below ) involved the appointment of Transparency International - Malaysian chapter founder Tunku Abdul Aziz as the vice-chairperson of the party.

Abdul Aziz was among the 10 party members who were co-opted into the CEC, immediately after he officially joined the party yesterday.

It was also not a surprise that two senior party leaders who were voted into the CEC yesterday - Selangor state assembly speaker Teng Chang Kim and Skudai state assemblyperson Dr Boo Cheng Hau - were not given any post.

The duo are popular among party grassroots but not among party leaders and are often seen as dissidents.

The 'rocket' team

In contrast, two junior party members who were co-opted into the CEC - Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and Bukit Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi - were appointed assistant publicity secretary and assistant political education secretary respectively.

Notable promotions involved Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and Penang deputy chief minister II P Ramasamy who were promoted to vice-chairperson and deputy secretary-general respectively.

DAP rising star and Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua was appointed national publicity chief.

"It reflects the choice made by the delegates. There is only one team - the rocket team," he said when asked if he now leads a 'dream team'.

Suggested by a reporter that the appointment of a blogger and a Malay to the CEC line-up is to appease different sectors of society, Lim said there is no such thing.

"There is no appeasement policy. We are taking a more team approach rather than the individual one," he added.
