‘Have a conscience! This is our nation and our future we are talking about. These are real people with lives we are talking about. What you do now determines their future.'
On 'Umno-PAS rule in S'gor' - Anwar ruined it
Color Blind: Dear Khir Toyo, I have dream too. And I share this dream with all patriotic Malaysians of all races in that our leaders of all races can soon sit down together and plan a road map for the benefit of our future generations.
But it is obvious that you are still living in the past. Your dream will create disunity among Malaysians. How are we suppose to compete with the orang putih ?
In pursuing your dream, we have seen two generations of youth go down the drain a.k.a, the ‘unemployable graduates brigade'.
While you are thinking up all this nonsense, we are sending our children to uncertainty.
Have a conscience! This is our nation and our future we are talking about. These are real people with lives we are talking about. What you do now determines their future.
I cringe every time I hear my young cousin who graduated from a local university tries to speak English. Please sir, no more. Do realise that your dream is every Malaysian's nightmare.
Tanpa Kepala: The things that Khir Toyo has a gripe against are exactly the things the rakyat wants. And that is why we booted you out, sir.
Stop being a Malay supremacist. Stop living in the caveman age. I am glad some leaders in PAS have shown maturity and wisdom in rejecting Umno.
We Malays cannot forever live and base ourselves on such racist ideologies.
Sin Yoong Cheong: These remarks by Khir Toyo. If they are not seditious and fanning racial sentiments, I do not know what is.
Dominic Henry Chin: ‘Khir said this was proven by the fact that Anwar was being supported by
'extremist' Chinese and Indians via opposition party DAP and the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf).'
I thought we were done with extremist Malay rights? Why is Khir bringing this up? This proves that he is an extremist and a racist. If he is still practising, I do hope non-Malays will stop going to him.
Chin Ren Sun: As a Malaysian, I am disheartened to know that Umno is trying to 'seduce' PAS by bringing up issues pertaining to Islam and the Malays. I quote Khir Toyo:
‘I am happy to hear that Umno and PAS leaders are talking. This happiness comes from the fact that I initiated the move after the March 8 elections," he said.'
Why didn't Umno propose these talks when they were still in power? It is an act of desperation.
Garry Khoo: Khir Toyo, have you still not woken up from your dream? Your comments are racist. This is why Malaysia is today still at this level.
You are using racism to get back your power. Please remember that a lot of Malays voted against you in 12th GE. A lot of Malays have already woken up and are learning fast how to run their own businesses with their own talent.
They no need help form Umno anymore. Please re-strategise your moves, Khir Toyo.
PAS is not stupid. Your ‘dream' should have been suggested before 12th general election.
On Umno offered PAS to jointly rule S'gor
Terang Bulan: Now that Pak Lah and Khir Toyo have shown Umno's true colours as the biggest racists in the world since the fall of apartheid in South Africa, I think Ong Tee Kiat should seriously work towards getting MCA - or what's left of it after the last general election - out of BN.
Pak Lah made no bones about wanting to form an all-Malay, racist coalition government with PAS after Umno/BN suffered heavy reverses on March 8. Their main purpose is, of course, to keep the DAP out of the Selangor government.
Now we would like to know what MCA, Gerakan, MIC, PPP and the Sarawak and Sabah non-Muslim BN components have to say in regard to this crass, racist appeal of Umno through the likes of Khir Toyo and Pak Lah.
If Umno succeeds in forming an all-Malay, racist coalition, the non-Umno components of BN would have to be either booted out or sidelined in a position worse than where they currently are.
Since Tee Keat is advocating multi-racial politics for MCA, what better time than now for him to pull out what's left of the MCA to join the PR, which is a multi-racial organisation?
Already some MCA leaders like Tan Yee Kew are jumping from MCA to PKR, and Tee Keat should take the cue from them. Tee Keat should not waste his time flogging a dead horse in trying to reform BN from within.
He can wait till thy kingdom come or until hell freezes over, but Umno will never shed its racist tendencies. I hope Tee Keat gets the message and will do the right thing so as to redeem whatever little self-respect is left within the MCA.
This similar message goes to Koh Tsu Koon, Samy Vellu, Kayveas, Pairin Kitingan, Yong Teck Lee, James Masing and others. Time for all of you to ditch the racist Umno and leave it to self-destruct.
William D: I was indeed amused when I read the above report which clearly reflects Umno's desperation to regain power in running the Selangor state again.
When someone has something to offer, he must offer it from a position of strength to someone whom he deems could be of equal strength.
Currently, Umno is no longer managing the state, so they don't have any strength or leverage to negotiate with and therefore have nothing to offer, unless it comes in the form of bribes, which I totally find to be distasteful.
I am a Selangor resident and am quite satisfied with the way the Pakatan Rakyat has been administering the state to date, constraints notwithstanding.
I, like many others, do not want the state to be managed by that Umno racist government again, ever.
Mooshie Mooshie: So the man is willing to be deputy of PAS to govern Selangor. The question is, is he a turncoat to be a member of PAS, (has he left Umno?) the party he once swore to keep out of Selangor?
Does he think the faithful Umno supporters would not feel cheated? Better still, is he playing on the racial sentiments of the non-Muslims?
To PAS, the Chinese and Indians have to started believing in you and Pakatan Rakyat - don't fall into the trap set by this cheat.
Dylan Chitty: A few observations occurred to me.
1. Why only talk to PAS after the elections? If it was genuine discussion wouldn't they have had dialogues before the elections?
2. ‘Offering' PAS the MB's post. Typical of Umno isn't it? Use bribery to win over people.
3. Using the race card. Again typical of Umno.
4. Does it sound like they are listening to the people? Harping on about how the ‘other races' and religions should not be equal with Malays and Islam.
Isn't this the kind of talk that created the 'political tsunami '?
5. Kudos to PAS for making a stand against racial supremacists and bribery. Umno should get it - it is 's no longer about thinking of your own race, status or positions.
It's about the betterment of every single Malaysian in this country which can only come when we are free from corrupt policies and politicians.
Lau Moo Leong: First of all, this meeting did not surprise me. It is purely politics. But I admire PAS for their honesty.
Why did Umno bring about this meeting after100 days? My view is that to create doubt and distrust among Pakatan Rakyat members.
Khir Toyo is one of unrespected politician and Malaysian citizen in my list. He created racism among the Selangor people.
If PAS will to work with Khir Toyo and Umno, then what is PAS' standard? Now, Khir Toyo is talking about ‘extremist' Chinese and Indians. Is he not extremist himself?
I fully and respect Tuan Guru Nik Aziz for his vision and knowledge although I am Christian and a Chinese. He is a most rational Muslim.
Umno is bankrupt as what Mahathir says. PAS and the Malays will be slaves to money again if they give their support to Umno. Think Malaysian.
Veda: Umno is behaving like a sore loser by playing the racial card again. Time and again they have used racial sentiments and capitalised from the remnants of the divide-and-rule system of the British to remain in power but this time around I believe it won't work, hopefully!
It would be quite disheartening to our country remain being divided according to racial lines when many other countries around the world have realised the importance of national unity regardless of race, religion and creed for the betterment of the country.
One need not look far for an example but just at our own backyard!
Stop acting like sore losers and get hold of the reality of the situation. Malaysians are a politically mature lot and it is no longer easy to manipulate them using the same old slogans as before.
One thing for sure is that these are all signs of a faltering government without a properly worked- out agenda and framework and which is trying to pull every known trick to survive.
Unfortunately, those tricks are archaic and irrelevant. So, time to find new tricks Umno.
On Karpal: Najib must testify in Altantuya murder trial
Peter Ooi: Karpal Singh is correct. Najib and if possible Rosmah should be called to testify in the Altantuya murder trial.
With two statutory declarations linking the couple to the case, it is imperative that they have to explain unanswered questions arising from the allegations.
Giving their statements to the police is definitely not sufficient to explain knowing the police.
Thus, explaining it in the court of law would be the best chance for the couple to clear their name and any lingering doubts.
On MCA's lone ranger: Pacts ain't my style
Percy Chan : For the MCA to remain relevant it has to be able to deliver the following:
Good economic management
Eradication of corruption
Rule of law and enforcement of it that can be trusted
Separation of powers
Leaders that provide leadership, inspire, have a vision, and are capable and honest with high ethical standards & conduct
Meritocracy
A Malaysia for all Malaysians
A caring government for a caring society
A spirit of excellence
Religion has no place in government.
Any one or any party that can deliver all of the above has my vote. My comment to Ong - don't make silly banner statements like 'you don't like pacts'.
The first thing you need to know is that to be an elected leader, the first pact is between you and us (your voters). You better know that!
On 'Pak Lah, step up or step down'
G-man: I echo the comments that our illustrious PM should initiate the changes mentioned, as this is expected of him as the leader of the country.
I think its time he got down to work in implementing the changes that would put Malaysia back on track.
If things persist as they are, then our future truly looks bleak. All talk and no action has everyone sick and tired. Time to pull up your socks, PM, and do the right thing for all Malaysians, both the present and future generations.
Mooshie Mooshie: Looking back and taking stock of the five years of the Pak Lah government, all the rakyat got was lies and the sense of being cheated because, time and again, we were lied to. We are beginning to think this PM is becoming a serial liar.
What will happen when this happens? The whole cabinet will be full of serial liars.
What happens next will be the suffering of the people of the country. Newspapers print lies, TV reports lies, BN talks about lies, schools are forced to teach lies.
What are we to do? Vote for a change of government. The recent call for the dissolution of parliament and a fresh election may not be bad ideas.
Speaking for millions of others, I bet that Pak Lah and his cronies will shrink from the idea of a fresh election.
Munti Dann: The opposition vows again and again to topple the government. So what?
When successful, Pakatan Rakyat will be in power and will most definitely be followed by power bargaining and ‘status tussles' among the component parties, perhaps in a magnitude more degrading than that in the BN.
Chances are PAS would be the first to pull out if their demands are not met. The outcome? No prizes for correct guessing. History will faithfully repeat itself.
The whole political scenario in this country is utterly disgusting, if not nauseating. What is the general election for?
Why short-change the future of the nation and remain oblivious to the suffering of the poor? Why keep blindly chasing after self-interests?
Greedy, stupid and power-crazy - that is what many of us are.
On Tan edging closer to join PKR
K Bing: As a Malaysian Chinese who feels that MCA is now irrelevant to the Chinese community, I applaud Tan Yee Kew's resignation from MCA and hopes she joins PKR as soon as possible.
MCA is trapped in the old mould of racial politics, a powerless partner in an unequal coalition of parties under the Umno hegemony, unable to move forward or backward. Why, then, does it exist?
Frankly, I've not met a MCA member who joined the party with the motivation of serving the community - it's all about gaining a leg-up in business with the strength of political positions.
Racial politics is nothing more than a device used by Umno to hold on to power, assisted willingly by minority parties such as MCA. Multi-racial politics championing social issues, irrespective of race, is the way to break BN's corrupted rule.
I'm sure that Tan will be able to do more in PKR to advance the political maturity of the country than the MCA president can ever hope to achieve as head of a totally pointless party.
On 'Let's not pay 2008 income tax'
Nobleman: I agree with many readers that not paying the income tax should be our non-violent resistance.
May this message be heard by our PM: if your are weak, let us give you our support, and if your are strong, get on with your job and restore the rules of law in the country.
Allow the Altantuya case to be conducted without ‘fear and favour'. Protect no one and bring in relevant witnesses instead of non-relevant witnesses for stage show purposes.
We have the SD, be it reliable or not, and the court should open it up to prove our judiciary is impartial.
Stop playing politics with Anwar. He is a true leader and no less than a ‘god send', for he continues to endure against all odds for his beliefs and for the people and nation.
Unfortunately, the evil attacks are from none other than the formidable government.
All we, as the citizens, can do now is to protest against the government by not paying the income tax as a way to show our dissatisfaction with the government for mishandling justice.
