A top state official in the office of Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been accused of corruption by none other than members of PKR - the party that forms the backbone of the Selangor government.

Four PKR members had yesterday lodged an ACA report alleging irregularities in the approval of a cleaning and rubbish collection contract in Petaling Jaya by the unnamed official.

The Selangor government has since responded to the allegations by welcoming an Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) probe into the case.

“As a responsible government which values transparency, the state administration urged the ACA to speedily conduct the investigation if strong evidence is found on the matter,” said a press statement released by the MB’s office late this evening.

It added that the state government is also ready to launch its own investigation given that the ACA has previously been slow to take action.

The Sinar Harian tabloid today reported that PKR members from three party divisions - Kuala Selangor, Tanjong Karang and Shah Alam - had made a police report against the top official two days ago.

This was followed yesterday by another report, this time to the ACA.

According to the group’s representative, Remy Iskandar, the reports were made to “save the image of the party” as well as the Pakatan Rakyat state government.

Forged MB’s office letterhead?

Remy said his group had documents to back their allegations that the top official had given the contract to four companies without the knowledge of the mentri besar.

“Based on the information from the documents, we doubt the transparency in the approval of the contract where the letterhead of the Office of the Mentri Besar does not have a clear reference number,” said Remy.

The Selangor state government, in its statement, called on the four PKR members to come forward to provide further information on the issue.

“The state government has its own process and procedure, enabling it to call witnesses to provide information and if strong evidence is found, the government will not hesitate to take action.”
