‘To solely blame Dr M for the judiciary’s crisis is not fair. What about the tribunal that recommended the dismissals?’
On Judiciary backs apology to Salleh
Andrew: To solely blame Dr M for the judiciary’s crisis is not fair. He started the process of dismissing the Lord President and other senior judges which the then King agreed to and formed a commission comprising of judges from Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
The commission need not have recommended the dismissal but they did. Is Dr M responsible for this?
On 'Contemptible politician' meets 'loose cannon'
Yew EH: Mahathir should stop commenting on others. He should instead look into the problems of his own country such as poverty, corruption, public service efficiency etc. And first and foremost, he should help to study the judicial system in detail - since he is such a good loophole searcher - to help to prevent abuse of power.
On Raja Nazrin calls for 'judicial renaissance'
EK Lim: This is a beautiful piece of advice. The supremacy of the constitution must be respected by all politicians (esp for those in power). The bullying of the judicial arm by the previous government leader must be acknowledged and steps taken to restore the position of the judiciary as the third arm of governance. Either Abdullah’s government takes steps toward this end or the demise of his government will only be a matter of time
On Hindraf worried for Uthayakumar's health
The Grim Reaper: The deliberate withholding of diabetic medication and the provision of high- starch foods to Hindraf ISA detainee Uthayakumar is tantamount to premeditated torture and goes against basic human rights and even the Geneva Convention for Prisoners of War. This is no better than the US' treatment of Guantanamo detainees which the Malaysian government is ever so quick to protest against.
Should Uthayakumar suffer permanent injury (eg, loss of sight, limb amputation) or death as a result of this deliberate torture, it is the Home Minister who is also the Prime Minister who bears ultimate responsibility.
On S'gor to drop all legal suits against individuals
NGO Robert: It is gratifying indeed to note YB Ronnie Liu's policy on legal suits instituted for and against local councils. Many legal suits instituted against local authorities, especially MPSJ, are because of wrongful, highhanded and arrogant actions taken by the authorities without due regard to the injured parties involved.
This is mainly due to wrong legal advice given by their heads of the Legal Department.Unless and until the heads of the Legal Department are transferred out from MPSJ, it is rather difficult for the plaintiffs to come to an amicable settlement with the local authorities.
Since YB had come up with a sound proposal, it is better for him to ask all local authorities to submit a paper giving a summary of all legal suits pending in the courts, the historical background and the proposed terms of settlement for review by the state exco.
Muru: Ronnie, we in Cheras (after 7th mile) have yet to see a day since 1976 when there is no traffic jam and no construction work. All we do is pay toll, which we now consider as highway robbery, and we suffer in pain.
Please get rid of the toll collections, complete the ongoing flyovers and stop starting anymore road projects. Convert the toll collections into funding for LRTs to Damansara, Cheras and Puchong. Ask the toll operators not to collect toll during off-peak hours and days. And please clamp down on all those inactive construction companies.
Just look at the flyover construction at Phoenix Plaza - sometimes there is not soul is working on the project for days in a row while we suffer traffic jams endlessly.
On PAS veep tells Umno to ditch Abdullah
Ramki: PAS Vice President Husam Musa is not invited to comment on Abdullah - don't poke your nose into other people's business, put your heart into your own business (PAS).What makes him think Tengku Razaleigh is a suitable substitute for Abdullah? Tengku ditched Umno and formed Semangat 46 and later he betrayed his supporters by rejoining Umno because he was given position in the government.
Malaysia does not need such flipflop leaders and he is also tainted with the BMF scandal. Husam should work hard for Pakatan Rakyat and not waste time with other people's problems. PAS must stop harping on the Islamic state and for hudud laws in a multiracial society.
On Let Pak Lah stay on and deliver
NWK: We, as part of the silent majority, must give our undivided support to our present prime minister Pak Lah so that the reforms which have started can be continued until fruitful.
On Cabinet meetings moved to Fridays
Hamisu: ‘Nazri said he hoped the live telecasts would make parliamentarians more careful on what they say and about their behaviour in the August House.’
What a joke! I am now laughing my head off. Nazri, Nazri, Nazri - this has been pretty much an about-turn for you. Never have I imagined this would actually come out of your racist mouth. Yes, I do mean racist literally when you shouted ‘racist’ 23 times in Parliament once.
So, now you've learnt that what comes out of your mouth actually reflects on your personality? I hope you mean it but I am begging you to continue with your old ways. I'd like to see whether you can actually learn some humility and professionalism. But that's just my thoughts. Again. I am now crawling on my knees, begging you, don't change! Continue with your old ways (and get your BN buddies involved too).
On Syariah lawyers back action on khalwat against non-Muslims
Richard Teo: The statement by the president of the Syariah Lawyers Association that non- Muslims have no right to break syariah law reflects the ignorance and the quality of Syariah lawyers in the country. If they cannot comprehend the basic difference between civil law and Syariah law then what right have these so-called lawyers to be given the licence to practice law albeit syariah law?
By the way, the non-Muslims are breaking syariah law everyday when they are having their morning breakfast of bak kut teh and if you go to Genting on any given day, the non-Muslims are gambling to their hearts content. So are our syariah lawyers suggesting that they should be prosecuted because they have broken syariah law?
If this is the kind of expertise coming from our syariah lawyers, I would suggest strongly that a syariah law exam similar to the CLP be introduced to test the proficiency of the syariah lawyers. Otherwise, the syariah courts would not only be incapable of dispensing justice to Muslims but would also be a mockery to their justice system
On Umno has no evidence to nail saboteurs
Sunny Lim: Last year saw the unprecedented events such as Bersih and Hindraf rallies which were on a colossal scale. The other street demonstrations on a smaller scale showed the evident dissatisfaction that the civil society wanted the BN government to take heed of, but the arrogance has spoken for itself.
Nazri Aziz, Maidin Zainuddin, Hang Tuah, Khairy and even Najib took the stage with their condemnations to protect our sleeping PM. Their challenge was clear and it was answered through the ballot box. The triumvirate who agreed that the indelible ink would not be used at the eleventh hour was the last straw. Every one knew the BN government was going all out to deceive the people and this resulted in the tsunami victory for Pakatan. It was a sweet smell of success indeed.
So Mr. PM you don’t have to look far for saboteurs. They are right before your eyes but you have chosen not to see. The ‘protest voters’ are not to be blamed for they have their prerogatives.
Barisan Nasional government has to concede defeat and respect the wishes of the people. Remember that the people have voted for the opposition because they love their country. Since it is time for a change, take it to your stride as the PM and take a bow because the show has ended. And please take your own saboteurs with you and good riddance.
On Appoint Indian reps in GLCs
Rebecca Gaythri: IF Umno is not supportive of the Indians in GLCs, why not the MIC shift to Pakatan Rakyat to get support?
Ross: Stop asking for ethnic representation. Just demand that the GLCs should take in people based on merit and experience without ethnic consideration. I believe we will automatically find representation by all groups.
On Kuala Langat pig farm to proceed
Christopher Yogaswaran: This project could be a catalyst if the co-generation of bio-gas via anaerobic digestion were to be successfully carried out. The electricity and bio-gas generated from that project could be given back to the people to enjoy at a discounted rate compared to the traditional coal co-generated electricity.
The new state government should first look into these options to make sure that the rakyat stand to benefit from this project. Furthermore, such a project would have a huge economical gain under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) with even the possibility of the local municipality benefitting financially.
Just imagine, if this project takes off, CDM is a success, then the pay-off would be big and that could be used to help the people in that municipality. Furthermore, if bio-gas is successfully produced, then the next thing to do is to get bio-gas fueled vehicles in. Remember that bio-gas is priced half the petrol rate. This project if given enough thought and research, could be a fantastic catalyst for other local municipalities.
Fear of this project is a normal thing as the rakyat have not been made aware of the knowledge and technology that is available to even convert pigs' waste into money. Who is to be blame for this fear?
On Penumpang KTM Komuter macam tin sardin
