The police have wrapped up their investigation into the mysterious death of K Sujatha, a local drama actress with political connections.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC II Ku Chin Wa confirmed today that investigation papers have already been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers last month.

"We will issue a statement (on the matter) when the investigation papers are returned," he told Malaysiakini.

Prosecutors would now have to determine whether anyone would be charged in court over Sujatha's death or whether police have to probe further into the case.

It is also possible that prosecutors may decide that the case warrants no further action.

Political connections

Sujatha, 29, was pronounced dead on June 25 after being admitted for four days at a hospital in Klang.

A month later, PKR supreme council member S Manikavasagam, speaking on behalf of Sujatha's uncle, claimed that he had proof that foul play was involved in Sujatha's death.

Following this, Maika Holdings chief executive S Vell Paari was probed by Sentul district police headquarters during a five-hour interview over two days.

Sujatha had formerly worked as Vell Paari's secretary in Maika Holdings. Vell Paari is also the son of MIC president and Works Minister S Samy Vellu.

Vell Paari has denied any links with Sujatha's death and claimed that certain quarters were out to tarnish his name to gain political milleage.

The Serious Crimes Division (D9) of the Kuala Lumpur state contingent took over the probe from the Sentual district police in early August.
