Futile to talk about varsity plagiarism

With the universities continue absorbing the less-than-competent or under-qualified students, this disease has turned malignant, says a reader.

On Academic 'hijacking'

Venntzu Chaan: Having been teaching in tertiary institutions for years, I am wondering if it is not superfluous to raise this question of plagiarism again and again. With the advent of Internet, things have gone from bad to worse in the past decade. Even research papers at Master and Doctorate levels in the supposedly highly acclaimed post- graduate academy are suffering from the growing epidemic.

With the universities continue absorbing the less-than-competent or under-qualified students, this disease has turned malignant. Naturally, the degrees could not be internationally accepted, let alone recognised. Well, when education already became a core political issue, could it still be educational?

On Kavyeas, you'll hear from our lawyers

Pttan: If the information in Ctos is not updated, and if it is proven that the whole truth would have cause a difference in a financial decision leading to losses, Ctos can be sued for not supplying the whole truth.

CKB: Ctos is using your information to make money. Whether officially or unofficially, it is considered a kind of advertisement, and you have the right to ask for payment from Ctos. If damages occurred, please do not forget to send them a bill.

On Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

KSN: Nazri's remarks about Singapore reveals as clear as daylight who is the really stupid between him and Lim Kit Siang. Singapore is not a country? Corruption is judged based on size and population?

If a man with such shallow understanding and reasoning of things is not stupid, I do not know what to call him. He must be thinking without his brains, if he has any grey matter normally found located between the ears. And he is our cabinet minister!

Brian Fong: The 'stupid, stupid, stupid' and 'I am not convinced' minister is now participating in public hearings on crime? He is someone who has consistently outdone himself in being deaf to logical reasoning (as proven in the call to review the 1988 judicial crisis when this minister keep on saying, 'I am not convinced! I need new facts...' when all the facts are laid bare before him).

Having such a character to solicit feedback... that is the biggest joke of the month and an insult to all victims of crime!

On NEP: Who cares?

Bai Yuen Sheng: I refer the about article.

I care, so too many non-Malays. The writer has my sympathy as he has already worn down by the continuous assaults from the NEP proponent, namely the whole government machinery.I must admit it's almost seemingly impossible to fight against such a goliath and we tend to give up and submissive to the idea (even we don't agreed to it), and become philosophical about things.

But we all must realise the reality that the NEP policies have caused us. The writer remarks "Who cares as long as economy is good, and my business is good as well?" That is precisely what the machinery is hoping for, and how many of us have the privilege to say something like this? And wealth shouldn't be the only criteria to be judged, the NEP has permeated to every social fabric of the society.

I care because I don't want my children to face the NEP and feel like second-class citizen. I mean we are not even comparable to the newly arrived immigrants from Indonesia (if memory serve me correct I read somewhere that they enjoyed the same privilege as the Malays). All said, we do need people like Mr Rommel to apply subtle pressure from the outside like they do with South Africa.

Concerned Citizen: The comments made by the European Commission ambassador is exactly what our politicians and intellectuals have been expressing all these years. Why is it so bad if the wrong policy is put right for the goodness of the populace?

We want more FDI (foreign direct investment) to stay. It is disturbing to read the DPM's statement against the ambassador. Every citizen has an equal stake of our economic pie. The NEP has been raped and abused for too long that is has become obsolete. If the government is not careful we will erode into third world status where hardcore poor can be seen on the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

Wake up and face reality. Our policymakers are so deluded and defiled with greed, hatred and ignorance that their sins cannot be forgiven. The universal law of cause and effect will eventually make them pay.
