An altercation almost ensued yesterday between residents of Kampung Chubadak in Sentul and the authorities who had come to demolish their homes.
In the incident, enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, supported by the police, came to demolish four houses following the issuance of eviction notices earlier.
With the 70-odd residents refusing to budge and the enforcement officers ready with bulldozers, Parti Keadilan Rakyat's information chief Tian Chua and Suhakam commissioner Siva Subramaniam started negotiating on behalf the residents.
Only the rain stopped what could have been an ugly incident and also dampened the rising anger. However by then two houses were torn down, although they were not marked for demolition.
A temporary solution was found with the DBKL officers agreed to extend the eviction notice for another two weeks.
Malaysiakini.tv was there to witness the incident.
