PAS has decided to make way for BN to contest in the upcoming Semenyih by-election.

"PAS will give way to the opposition representative from BN which had a bigger vote share in the 14th general election," PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said.

He added that PAS will also help the opposition campaign in Semenyih and urged its members to vote for the BN candidate.

In GE14, BN's Johan Abd Aziz bagged 14,464 votes compared to 6,966 votes for PAS.

The seat was won by Bersatu's Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, who had an 8,964 vote majority after garnering 23,428 votes.

Bakhtiar died last week, triggering the by-election.

Semenyih has traditionally been an Umno seat with Johan winning in both 2008 and 2013.

Takiyuddin hoped that the by-election will turn up a positive result for the opposition which only has five seats in the 56-seat Selangor state assembly.

Besides BN and Pakatan Harapan, PSM' S Arutchelvan may also contest in Semenyih.

Arutchelvan had received 1,293 votes in the May 9 general election. He has been contesting the seat unsuccessfully since 2008.
