CAMERON POLLS | DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang had tried to cover up for Senator Bob Manolan Mohd's recent gaffe, alleged MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker.

In a statement today, Ti said this is as while Lim had claimed that DAP lawmakers who heard Bob Manolan's speech last Friday did not consider it a threat, the senator has since apologised.

"Now that PKR Senator Bob Manolan has apologised for threatening the Orang Asli, are DAP and Lim going to dismiss the threat on the Orang Asli as a small matter or continue with their leaders' denial that it did not happen?

"DAP has to apologise and retract threats made against Orang Asli. Lim's denial quoting DAP ministers, MPs, etc as witnesses is false and a lie," said Ti.

Several Pakatan Harapan lawmakers had held a dialogue with Orang Asli village chiefs (tok batin) where Bob Manolan spoke.

During his speech, Bob Manolan (photo) said any tok batin who does not support Pakatan Harapan as the federal government and who continue to be Umno branch leaders, should be removed or denied wages.

Several tok batin who attended the event told Malaysiakini later that they were insulted by the remark.

Initially, after Malaysiakini reported this incident, Bob Manolan claimed that he was misintepreted. Malaysiakini then released an audio recording of his speech.

Several Harapan leaders, including Lim and PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, had tried to defend Bob Manolan, but the senator eventually apologised yesterday.

The Orang Asli are a key demographic in the Cameron Highlands by-election, making up 22 percent of the electorate.
