Rosmah Mansor is expected to be slapped with several charges over an RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for rural schools in Sarawak this week, The Star reported today.

The wife of former prime minister Najib Razak is expected to face charges together with her former aide Rizal Mansor, the report quoted a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source as saying.

This comes more than a month after Rosmah was slapped with 17 counts of money laundering charges involving RM7 million deposited into her personal bank account.

However, those familiar with the investigation declined to reveal Rosmah's role in the hybrid solar project, or about the possible charges to brought against her.

Malaysiakini revealed in June that the Education Ministry, under the previous administration, had awarded the solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak to a Bintulu-based company under "direct orders" from Najib.

Documents sighted also showed that the contract tender bypassed the Education Ministry's standard operating procedures and procurement processes.

In June, MACC hauled up several executives of the company for questioning while Rosmah's aide was arrested for investigation in July.

To a question on whether Najib and former education minister Mahdzir Khalid would also face charges, the source said: “Not yet.”

A special officer to Najib and Mahdzir have been questioned by the MACC over the matter. Najib himself was called in by MACC last Thursday to assist in investigations into several cases, including the solar hybrid project.
