Yoursay: A world of difference between Ops Lalang and graft arrests

YOURSAY | 'Don’t equate political prisoners of the 1980s with corrupt Umno members of the 2010s.'

'Ops Lalang returns after 30 years' – warns Najib's ex-aide

Annonymous: Ops Lalang detained the patriots, innocent activists, good Malaysian leaders and intellectuals under the draconian Internal Security Act by a corrupt Umno dictatorship.

They were stripped of their human rights, thrown into jail, denied their freedom and locked up for up to two years. They were all denied lawyers and due legal process, denied visit from family members and denied court hearing.

But with the recent arrests and prosecution of Umno's politicians, the accused had free access to a dozen best lawyers to defend them, and could easily raise millions for bail.

The sinful hundreds of millions in hard cash and countless jewelleries, luxury watches and Birkin bags, a superyacht and private jet, mansions, classic artwork, and other illicit wealth worth multi-billions had been recovered and seized from these Umno politicians, while their grandchildren are free to make hate videos to threaten the peace of the rakyat.

Clever Voter: The Pakatan Harapan government, to be fair, has been patient and tolerant of the nonsensical propaganda instigated by Umno.

There has been no political arrest of opposition members who have organised illegal assemblies.

Quite a number of draconian laws have not been repealed, but these are not used against political enemies.

To date, only two high-profile individuals have been charged for criminal breach of trust and money laundering. Indeed, many feel that the government has not gone far enough.

The government, if at all, should be urged to carry out an anti-corruption operation, and all those big-headed individuals should be arrested. But sticking to rule of law requires proper process and procedures to be carried out.

Public support can be assured if the intent is to recover billions stolen from the coffers of the government.

Now, opposition Umno leaders will attempt to distract as much as much as they can, but they cannot change the facts, as evidence is clear.

These require verification, and it is quite clear they could not see these, as corruption was never disallowed.

That explains why they don't see any wrong. They never will!

Sinner: Umno Online, try again. Do not equate political prisoners of the 1980s with corrupt Umno members of the 2010s.

Falcon: Sinner has put it well! There is a difference between thieves masquerading as "pious God-fearing individuals and families" and those who were caught in the dragnet for alleged political activities detrimental to law and order.

The Umno Online portal is just another forum for wild unsubstantiated allegations by those now exposed and the faster the Registrar of Societies (ROS) intervenes in this matter, the better.

The online portal should not test the intelligence of the common folks either.

New Hope: Umno leaders, do not insult all those who were arrested during Ops Lalang by associating yourselves with them.

It is an insult to the ISA detainees to be associated with thieves and dishonest politicians who looted the country under the government led by Najib Razak.

Cogito Ergo Sum: By equating the Umno leaders hauled up for theft and kleptocracy with the political detention of the 80s, the writer thinks he or she can absolve the former of criminal activity.

Of all the efforts to try and whitewash the massive theft by Umno, this is the most ridiculous and laughable.

All those detained have been charged for various criminal offences. Those detained in the 80s were not charged for crimes. Stop hoodwinking the rakyat.

Hopeful123: You may call it whatever you want. This is one clean-up long awaited for 60 years by the rakyat.

The culprits have all the avenues to have their day in court to prove their innocence. They can engage the best lawyers in the country. They can be out on bail pending a court hearing.

In the end, if found guilty, please return all the ill-gotten wealth, pay the fines and go to prison.

RKR: Malaysians will support whatever 'operasi' there is, as long as the nation is rid of corruption and kleptocracy.

Carpe Diem: The other day, it was Reformasi. Today it's Ops Lalang 2.0. What next? Malayan Emergency 2.0? Portuguese and Dutch invading Malacca 2.0?

It goes to show how deluded this bunch of people are. An aide to the ex-PM? Says it all, doesn't it?

Madam X: Yes, such a mischievous claim. The people who are very afraid now are mostly the corrupt ones from the previous regime.

Ex-Wfw: Indeed, what has the current scenario to do with Ops Lalang?

The current scenario deals with corruption to the hilt. Ops Lalang dealt with the safety of the nation, whether real or otherwise, but the current scenario will guarantee the collapse of the nation if nothing is done. The two scenarios are totally different.

Mosquitobrain: Umno Online, oppose all you may but with a just cause. BN-Umno leaders would not be in this dilemma if they're clean, principled, upright and do not cheat, steal or rob.

Do not cry over spilt milk.

Now Hopeful: Where were these people (who suddenly now found their voices) when then opposition figures like Rafizi Ramli, Nurul Izzah and Tian Chua were shoved into lock-up for just speaking out? Hypocrites!

Anon-2: We are so glad that Dr Mahathir Mohamad is a different man now, and the new government and its agencies are catching the crooks, rather than just those who oppose the government.
