Yoursay: Najib's family should not expect VIP treatment in 1MDB probes

YOURSAY | 'In fact, Najib's whole family could be suspected of abetting ex-PM's alleged crimes.'

Najib's mum treated no worse than critics of past

Sin Lee Huang: To compare police behaviour today with the previous regime is too low a bar. We can, and shall, do better.

There is nothing reported in the media that leads me to even suspect former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s mother Rahah Mohammad Noah was treated badly in the police raid at her house.

If the police had enough suspicion to conduct a search, then the status of the occupant should not be a consideration.

If granddaughter Nooryana Najwa Najib has complaints that the police had acted badly, please tell us. We will defend her grandmother.

Straightalk: Well said, Malaysiakini columnist R Nadeswaran. Najib's daughter Nooryana has nothing to say about all those atrocities that her father had allegedly committed when he was prime minister.

Indeed, Najib had governed our country like a police state.

Sun: Nadeswaran, you forgot to mention how they questioned Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's wife over some non-existent crime.

Her crestfallen face sitting in the room with two police officers haunted the nation at the time, and continues to haunt me to this day.

Where was this young lady's sense of justice then? An injustice is an injustice, no matter who is involved. So save your tears for another occasion, Nooryana.

Cicak Boy: Also, let's not forget the Najib government prosecuting a young woman, dance producer Bilqis Hijjas, for dropping yellow balloons at an event attended by the ex-PM and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.

Anonymous #33227154: During Najib's regime, police abuse was widely used against his innocent ‘critics and enemies’. It was a gross abuse of power, and those police officer culprits should be punished.

In contrast, the police under Pakatan Harapan did not use any force against Najib's mother and family. It's lawful to search her house since her son is alleged to be the greatest of thieves in Malaysia.

Najib's mother certainly doesn't deserve any special VIP treatment. In fact, the police should search the homes of all Najib's family members to recover the loot.

This family should not be given any special VIP treatment.

Stupid Is As Stupid Does: What the old lady's son is doing to her husband Abdul Razak Hussein's name is worse than what the police had done.

Now when talking about our second prime minister, you think of the 'kleptocrat' son, not of Razak.

Mo Saladin: It's high time the family stops pulling wool over our eyes with this victim narrative. Anyone would know this is nothing more than a manufactured war cry.

Najib Razak and Jho Low - Who will betray the other first?

Anonymous 1890491455255851: The level of greed that one sees when reading the book Billion Dollar Whale is truly despicable. And the 1MDB board, which ended up comprising Najib loyalists, should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

We also see how all those big and small banks were so motivated by greed that they risked breaking the rules in a major way.

For Najib to have just let this continue and be a part of the massive financial crimes allegedly committed, is something that no prime minister and finance minister should be allowed to get away with.

Panorama123: How can Najib, as a PM with a monthly salary of RM20,000 plus, be given credit cards with credit limit of US$1million as claimed in the book?

Which bank with their stringent SOPs (standard operating procedures) and compliance unit would ever authorise the approval of such credit limit based on official reported income?

In addition, we will be looking at the sequel, Billion Dollar Whale 2, once investigations proceed with the “red files” in the Finance Ministry during BN's reign.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Najib is in an unenviable position. He can’t say Jho Low took him for a ride because, as finance minister, he is supposed to be the paragon of due diligence.

My advice to Najib is free, unlike his lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah’s, which is worth RM9.5 million: Spill the beans on Low and throw yourself to the mercy of the courts.

You may have a chance at a lighter sentence.

Anonymous 287211434594786: As we can see, it is too late for Najib to change the script, but not too late for Low to cooperate with the authorities in return for a lesser penalty.

KarepuSamy: Low is not a politician, thus he will prefer to keep whatever assets remain under his control. After all, he will not come back to Malaysia in the near future. He can still have a happy life in the United States.

But Najib in his situation will claim innocence even after completing his jail sentence. He is a product of the crooked Umno, after all.

Cicak Boy: There is no honour among thieves. Najib's defence will be that he believed, or was conned into believing, all funds came from the Saudis.

Low will say all decisions were made by Najib, and whatever he took was a donation. Sooner or later, both will fry each other.
