RM2.6b 'contingency funds' from Saudi king's 'company', claims Najib

Ferdtan: "Former premier Najib Abdul Razak today claimed that the US$681 million (RM2.6 billion) in his personal accounts were ‘contingency funds’ from the king of Saudi Arabia."

Since Pakatan Harapan is the government representing Malaysia, we should send our foreign minister to Saudi Arabia to get the truth from them, including the named princes and king.

We are sure now that the Saudis will not lie for the disposed PM to offend the current Harapan government if they value our good relationship with them.

When it comes to the business of international relations, there are only permanent interests and no permanent friendships. No country values personal relationship higher than their own country's interests. Period.

Anonymous_b3cdcd05: To cut a long story short, MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) was allegedly sourcing money for GE13 and prince Abdulaziz Al Saud, a representative of King Abdullah, had written to Najib that US$681 million, of an agreed-to US$800 million, will be channelled to him from either the prince's account or his other sources including Tanore (Finance).

Eventually, the money seemed to have come through Tanore. This is where the confusion arises because according to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), the US$681 million that was channelled to Najib through Tanore originated from 1MDB's third bond issue raised in 2013 purportedly for a joint venture with Abu Dhabi Malaysia Investment Company (ADMIC).

And Tanore is beneficially owned by Eric Tan Kim Loong, an associate of Jho Low, and Low is also believed to have used Tan's name as an alias.

So the question is who is telling the truth? We are aware that the DOJ has submitted 239 pages as documentary evidence in its civil forfeiture claim filings that identified Najib as MO1.

Is Najib disputing these documentary evidence? Why don't he start by showing us the letter dated March 3, 2013 allegedly received from prince Abdulaziz Al Saud and the documents to prove that the beneficial owner of Tanore is not Tan Kim Loon @ Jho Low as stated by DOJ?

Iiiizzzziiii: It looks like we have a leader who had used whatever means to justify the end. There is no right or wrong here as this approach may appeal to both sides of the divide.

In the end, we are answerable to our actions. Just as we enjoyed picking and eating the fruits, if anything bad happened as a result of consuming them, we should accept and suffer for it.

If a leader cannot understand this, then he is unfit to lead any nation. It speaks volumes about what kind a person this leader is.

In good times, those who have associated with this leader, will benefit and when things go sour, they will have to take the heat for him or her.

Meerkat: Najib is desperately (in futility) trying to avoid prosecution under the AMLA (Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act) but has incriminated himself under election regulations, criminal breach of trust and treason, for subjecting the prime minister of a sovereign nation to be subservient to the leader of another country, just to name a few offences.

A sharper legal eye will be able to list more. That's not to mention the absolute stupidity of his actions.

Cocomomo: He said in his words that he received money from a foreign source. Based his statement alone, he should be charged with treason.

I do not think he expects logical thinking Malaysians to believe what he has written. He is just desperately trying to bring some religious element to this episode to hopefully to keep his misled supporters misled.

The Himalayans: This shameless M01 is issuing statements almost every alternate day to confuse the rakyat; if the funds are really from the Arabs why doesn’t he sue the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and DOJ for making him the world famous kleptocrat?

What’s the point of involving some dead Arabs now, when they can’t wake up and testify in court? This shameless M01 is using the same strategy as his hotshot lawyer - issuing statements to confuse the rakyat, but the whole world knows that he has stolen billions and money has gone into his personal accounts, just like his hotshot lawyer has allegedly taken money from 1MDB but is crying that he has been victimised and unaware of the ordeals.

Rupert16: Yes, another cock-and-bull story from Najib. He has certainly outdone Aesop with his many tall tales.

The storyline from Najib has been constantly changing - first he denied it, then he said that the money is from the Saudis was to fight ISIS. When caught lying, he changed his story again in that the support from the Saudis is because of his role in promoting moderate Islam, and now he is claiming that the Saudi funds were to support BN on GE13.

Let’s wait with bated breath for his next cock-and-bull story when he has all the time in the world in Bamboo River Resort to reflect and think of another story, this time with the help of his lawyer Shafee Abdullah.

Anonymous 1689721435778173: Najib, your story would sound interesting and even plausible, if others more credible than you had not investigated and found out who the people are who are really behind Tanore. I don't think the courts will believe you.

When you were PM, you had the whole government apparatus at your disposal to investigate any illicit accumulation of funds by the Penang and Selangor governments and could easily have nailed them if true.

Your story gives the impression that you are clutching at straws to save yourself from drowning in a sea of public odium and contempt. Save yourself the trouble.

You are really standing on quick sand. The more you try to dig yourself out, the deeper you sink. Only truth will make you free.

Gerard Lourdesamy: The Saudi ambassador should be summoned to Wisma Putra for an explanation.

If true, it is direct interference by Saudi Arabia in the internal affairs of a democratic nation. It is also a violation of our sovereignty under international law and a serious breach of diplomatic norms.

But the DOJ did not discover any such contingency funds and Tanore does not belong to the Saudis. Why would the Saudis lie to the US, which is their most important ally?

Najib has seriously undermined his own legal defence by his inconsistent version of events. He is making it easier for the prosecution to prove their case against him.

Any defence attorney worth his salt would have told his client to keep his mouth shut a long time ago.

FlabberPro: But Najib, you were the one who did all those things you claimed the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat was intended to do. You bought over politicians - remember the Perak Three froggies?

In other words, weren't you alluring foreign intervention into Malaysian election then? Wouldn't King Abdullah then influence you to influence Malaysia to favour him? You were selling the country to him!

In short, I call this story a bluff. Only you would believe this really took place. Not a dime of trust from me, sorry.
