SG KANDIS POLLS | Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar today said PAS' decision not to contest in the Sungai Kandis by-election should not be interpreted as the party making concessions to Umno.

"The issue in Sungai Kandis is not a case of PAS making way (for Umno). The language must be clear.

"What happened was prior to our decision, we had considered the most recent research and information available to us, including the financial position and other factors.

"Therefore, we made a decision not to contest," he said in a video shared on Facebook.

Samsuri, who is also PAS election director, said any notion that the party was making way for Umno was an "external interpretation."

The Sungai Kandis by-election will take place on Aug 4 and will see a three-way contest between PKR, BN and an independent candidate.

As for the yet to be fixed Balakong by-election, Samsuri said a decision had yet to be made.

He added that feedback will be sought from the Selangor PAS election machinery before arriving at a decision.
