Don't be shy, be open about support for Umno, PAS leader told

SG KANDIS POLLS | PAS need not be shy about showing its support for Umno-BN, said a PKR leader.

Harapan Youth strategic director Syukri Razab also told PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan that there was also no need to slander Pakatan Harapan as an excuse for siding with Umno-BN.

Syukri was responding to Nasrudin's claim that the Islamist party decided to sit out the Sungai Kandis by-election so as to ensure Harapan loses, claiming it had failed to fulfil its election promises.

“If Nasrudin wants to support Umno, then make known the support in a gentlemanly and mature manner.

“He should prove how Umno today needs their support, and not cook up some excuse by throwing allegations and slander at Harapan,” he said in a statement today.

Syukri said the 14th general election on May 9 had seen only hate and vengeful politics, which should not continue.

“What more, Nasrudin comes from a party that claims they are champions of Islam, thus he should strive to portray Islamic political thinking that is more mature,” he said.

Nasrudin today claimed that Harapan, which has been in power for just over two months, had purportedly failed to keep its election promises.

Syukri, who is also PKR Youth organising secretary, said the PAS leader is not naive and should be well aware that Harapan has not completed 100 days in power.

“Furthermore, the promises Nasrudin cited are not in the 100-day promise, such as the abolition of tolls.

“Nasrudin also knows Harapan promised to stabilise petrol prices with targetted subsidies, and has succeeded in doing so,” he said, adding, the PAS leader is probably enjoying the stable petrol price today unlike in the past.

“So, why does Nasrudin comes to a quick judgment that Harapan has completely failed?” he asked.

He said the PAS leader was still punishing his political foes and exacting revenge, and not displaying the ideals of Islamic behaviour.

Yesterday at the Sungai Kandis nominations, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa boasted his party had successfully negotiated with its former arch-enemy PAS over the by-election strategy, calling it a breakthrough.

As a result, Umno will be taking on Harapan and an Independent candidate.

Syukri said: “In my view, Nasrudin is still shy to show his support for Umno and BN. He should really be more transparent in urging others to support Umno and BN.”
