Two men detained over murder threat towards Syerleena

The police have detained two men for investigation in connection with a death threat made against Seri Delima assemblyperson Syerleena Abdul Rashid recently.

Penang police chief Datuk Seri A.Thaiveegan said the suspects, aged 27 and 49, were arrested at about 7pm yesterday.

The arrest was made after police sought the assistance of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the owner of the Facebook account which posted the death threat against the assemblyperson, he added.

Last Saturday, Syerleena, 38, lodged a report at the Jelutong police station over a death threat made against her on a Facebook posting.

Prior to that, she also received a death note, which was found in a letter box at her service centre.

Meanwhile, in another development, Barat Daya district police chief Supt A A Anbalagan said five teenagers, including four school students, were detained for allegedly bullying and filming their half-naked friend, at Bandar Baru Teluk Kumbar near here last Wednesday.

The boys, aged between 15 and 17, were arrested yesterday after a report was lodged by the 15-year-old victim, he said, adding that they were released on police bail after their statements were recorded.
