This is the first time in Malaysian history that a former prime minister will sit in the opposition bloc, said Najib Abdul Razak's daughter Nooryana Najwa.

However, she is confident that her father would remain undeterred and continue to contribute to the nation.

“If in his shoes, some may find this new role a 'downgrade'... but, not this man.

“This is merely a new experience for him - ever ready to collectively solve problems, share knowledge and expertise and most importantly provide checks and balances that come with a mature democracy,” she added in an Instagram post yesterday.

As a responsible opposition member, she said, her father would continue to give his all for the betterment of all Malaysians to ensure no one is left behind.

“May Allah remove the obstacles in your path and those in the path of your colleagues,” she added.

Najib, who retained his Pekan seat in the last polls, was sworn in as a lawmaker yesterday.

This morning, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V officiated the opening of the 14th Parliament session, which for the first time witnessed BN lawmakers as the opposition.

After BN lost federal power in the May 9 general election, Najib had resigned as the coalition's chairperson and Umno president.

The former prime minister is currently out on bail after claiming trial to four charges related to the SRC International issue.
