Home ministry probing 'Israeli' journalists covering Palestinian lecturer's murder

The Home Ministry is investigating whether two journalists, believed to be from an Israeli news portal, had entered the country to provide news coverage on the murder of a Palestinian lecturer recently.

Caretaker deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the public should not make any speculation on the matter.

“We want to know who is spreading these stories. Do not make hasty conclusions, let the investigations be completed and let us issue a statement subject to the suitability...but do not jump to conclusions,” he told reporters after launching the Johor Youth Entrepreneurship Carnival 1.0 at @Mart Kempas in Johor Bahru yesterday.

He was commenting on a video recording of the journalists who were believed to be in Malaysia and providing news coverage on the shooting death of electrical engineering lecturer Fadi Al Batsh near a condominium in Jalan Meranti, Kuala Lumpur on April 21.

The 38-second video which had gone viral on the social media showed a journalist from the news portal providing news coverage at the crime scene.

According to Nur Jazlan, the ministry always monitored the movements of foreign nationals who entered Malaysia.

“We have many war refugees from Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, seeking protection in Malaysia. Sometimes, the issues in their countries are brought here and we have to constantly monitor the situation, but it is difficult to keep an eye on everyone.

“In this case, we do not know the motive of the lecturer’s murder, so wait for the police to conduct their investigation,” he said.
