Dr Mahathir Mohamad's decision to gatecrash a forum discussing whether he is too old to be prime minister again has left a famous local movie producer in stitches.

In an Instagram posting today, Adflin Shauki uploaded a photograph of the former premier and his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Ali posing with the panellists.

In the image, Mahathir could be seen staring at political analyst Kamarul Zaman Yusoff, who was standing next to him.

The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) professor had been critical of Mahathir, claiming that the 93-year-old politician satisfied only two out of 10 criteria to be the head of government.

“Hahahahaha.... Alas.... I cannot write this kind of comedy!. Truly epic,” he said.

Meanwhile, actor Sharnaaz Ahmad took a potshot at another panellist, fitness instructor Kevin Shari.

Itu bukan Kevin Zahri ka? Hang cikgu fitness kan...yang dok masuk politik pasai pa? Dari protein shake ke parlimen ka?...(Is that not Kevin Zahri? You are a fitness teacher...why enter politics? From protein shakes to Parliament is it?),” he said on Twitter.

Kevin and another panellist, psychologist Dr Mat Saat Mohd Baki, agreed that age should not be a determining factor with regard to whether Mahathir was qualified to be prime minister.

This morning, Kamarul hit back at critics who claimed that he appeared intimidated when Mahathir appeared at the Shah Alam event yesterday.

“There are widespread allegations on social media accompanied by photos which portrayed me as being meek by his side, as though I had peed myself in fear as soon as Mahathir arrived at the forum. This is untrue,” he said.

After making the unexpected entrance and receiving a standing ovation from all those present, except Kamarul, Mahathir tweeted: “I am here guys. Say it to my face.”

He and his wife then sat in the front row facing the panellists.

Meanwhile, a video was posted on the Kelab Che Det Facebook page showing Kamarul's demeanour before and after Mahathir entered the Shah Alam complex.

The caption for the video stated that Kamarul's face “looked like someone who had swallowed mothballs when Mahathir arrived.”

The forum was organised by Sinar Harian in the wake of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak telling Malaysians not to place the future of this nation in the hands of a 93-year-old man.
