Mechanic pleads not guilty to ramming into Klang Marathon runners

A mechanic was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with reckless and dangerous driving that resulted in three participants of the Klang City International Marathon to be injured last December.

Teoh Thiam Lim , 28, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge before magistrate Roslizi Sulaiman.

The man was charged with driving a Proton Iswara in a reckless manner that could endanger others at Batu 2, Jalan Kapar, here at about 4.30am on Dec 10 last year.

The charge, under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, provides an imprisonment for up to five years and fine of up to RM15,000.

Deputy public prosecutor Amira Abd Aziz offered bail of RM8,000 in one surety.

Teoh, who was unrepresented, requested for a lower bail, following which the court set bail at RM5,500 in one surety.

The court also set March 9 for mention.

Teoh was reported to have hit the runners from the back, causing one Evelyn Ang Gek Suan, 44, to be seriously injured, and reported to be still in a coma at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The two others injured are Amiruddin Hamid, 37, and Ahmad Hadafi Jus, 42.
