Investigations by the police have revealed that a doula (non-medical assistant during childbirth) was not involved in the death of a newborn baby girl during a home birth in Johor Bahru recently.
South Johor police chief Shahurinain Jais said the complainant and the baby's mother had denied using the services of a doula in giving birth to the child.
“A complete investigation has been conducted by the police, and it was found that the cause of the baby's death was not due to using the services of a doula,” he said in a statement in Johor Bahru today.
He said the doula issue which had gone viral would also be investigated and that the police had referred to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.
The case of the baby's death had gone viral on Facebook recently, and it was said that she was delivered at home but died due to complications while being under the care of a doula.
