A police report has been lodged against a Mathematics teacher who allegedly heated a metal sharpener and placed it on a pupil's cheek after the boy played in the classroom during lessons.
Tamil daily Makkal Osai reported the incident happened about 11am on Tuesday at a primary school in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, when the victim, Mohamad Fikri Said, eight, was playing with his classmates as the male teacher was conducting his class.
The boy's father, Said Sudu, 32, told a press conference arranged by PKR assemblyperson for Port Dickson, M Ravi, yesterday that the teacher became enraged by the incident before resorting to the "cruel act".
"He heated up the metal sharpener by vigorously rubbing it on the floor and when it became heated, he placed it on three different spots on my son's cheek. This caused blisters to the extent of the skin peeling off.
"The teacher did not stop there. He also slapped my son several times on the spot where the wounds were," Said claimed.
He added that he was shocked to see the wounds after coming back from work and immediately took his son to the clinic.
Said also lodged a police report on the matter yesterday morning.
"Is this how a teacher should behave? I will not rest until this case is settled," he said.
According to Said, his wife also messaged the teacher involved via WhatsApp, to confront him about the matter but he did not "provide satisfactory answers".
Meanwhile, Ravi claimed that this was the first time students had been mistreated in the school.
He alleged that he had previously dealt with cases where students, especially Indians, were beaten with shoes and broomsticks for various reasons.
According to him, several lawyers have offered to take Fikri's case to court on a pro bono basis.
